Job Details

We understand that for some people ambition can't wait, and that is why WBD champions alternative routes into your chosen profession. We've been successfully recruiting apprentices in to the business for the past eight years and now we have an exciting opportunity for a Data Analyst Apprentice (eDiscovery) to join us in our Southampton office.

Whether you're leaving school or college or changing career path, this Data Analyst Apprenticeship (eDiscovery) programme offers a formal qualification, protected study time, an abundance of support and valuable hands-on experience through paid on-the-job learning.

Why are we recruiting?

The future of law is technology and AI! Our Dispute Resolution team provide legal advice across Commercial, Regulatory, Employment, Insurance, Property Disputes and Construction law. However this team doesn't just consist of lawyers, they also have data analysts to manage and advise on the data and documents required for litigation specially using a system called eDiscovery. This process is the electronic aspect of identifying, collecting and producing electronically stored information (ESI) in response to a request for production in a law suit or investigation. We need new talent to join them and that's where you come in!

What will you actually be doing?

You will work as part of our eDiscovery team and learn to provide technical services for the preservation, collection, analysis and subsequent use of large volumes of data in litigation.

Your exciting new role will include:

  • Identifying data required for litigation, and ensuring this data is appropriately preserved and collected
  • Analysing data to identify trends, patterns and anomalies and communicate these to the legal teams
  • Working alongside the legal teams to identify key documents and to prepare legal cases
  • Preparing data and documents for presentation (for example, at trial)
  • Assisting with the management of projects to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met
  • Identifying, investigating and resolve issues which arise from the data/documents
  • Providing technical assistance and best use recommendations to the legal teams and clients on the use of eDiscovery tools, which is one of the latest pieces of legal technology
  • Assisting with the ongoing development/implementation of best eDiscovery practices within the firm (including the use of Generative AI)
  • Assisting to prepare legal documentation for the disclosure stage of litigation

What support will you get on the apprenticeship?

You'll be allocated a Supervisor, who will help you to keep on track with your studies and a mentor, an experienced member of the eDiscovery team to help to get your up to speed. You'll also experience a broad variety of quality legal training, with exposure to household-named clients and cutting edge work, which will help shape the direction of your career.

You'll receive 20% off the job training time which usually works out at one day a week to dedicate to your studies towards your Data Essentials Level 3 Apprenticeship with our fantastic provider QA. You can read all about the qualification here. Once you've finished this level of apprenticeship, there may be opportunities for further studies.

How do you apply?

To be eligible for this apprenticeship you'll need 5x GCSEs including English & Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English. Prospective candidates must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in a similar subject. On the application form, please add in all of your grades for all of your studies individually. This will include all of your GCSEs (or equivalents) and please add any A-Levels, degrees or higher qualifications.

You can apply via the "apply now" button on this page.

The application window is open from Tuesday 17 September to Sunday 6 October.

Here's the timeline for the rest of the process:

  • Applications will close on Sunday 6 October at 23:59.
  • You'll then be notified if you've made it through to our assessment day by Friday 18 October.
  • The assessment day will take place during w/c 28 October (half term).
  • We'll then deliver final outcomes to everyone during November.
  • The apprenticeship will then begin with WBD at the start of 2025.
