The role
This is your opportunity to join our dedicated Tax Controversy team, which routinely advises and represents multinational companies in the management of tax audits and tax disputes at all administrative and judicial levels around the world.
Led by recognised leaders and specialists in UK tax controversy the team continues to go from strength to strength and has just enjoyed its most successful year. An opportunity is now available for a senior and experienced tax controversy professional to join the team to support and further develop the team’s ability to meet our clients’ needs.
The role requires that the successful candidate has first class basics, the tax technical and strategic skills to lead on client matters under supervision, and the ability to work closely and effectively within a wider team on high value, complex and fact heavy client matters.
The successful candidate will be focussed on UK direct tax controversy matters. However, to provide our multinational clients with a business wide solution, the role will require frequent collaboration with our international offices and colleagues, both within tax, as well as neighbouring fields such as criminal law, employment law, regulatory law, IP law and corporate law.
The team works with multinational corporations, privately owned companies, partnerships, limited liability companies, high-net-worth individuals and trusts and estates in all aspects of sophisticated tax disputes and criminal tax matters around the world.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working as part of our highly regarded global team, candidates will enjoy a broad diet of work, but with a particular focus on direct tax matters. Our tax controversy team works on complex matters including (but not limited to);
- Tax and transfer pricing audits, enquiries and investigations
- pre-audit strategies and post-audit proceedings
- tax criminal proceedings and in tax‐related liability proceedings
- full-service assistance in connection with Income and Corporate Tax disputes, VAT, Customs and Excise Duties, including negotiating successful settlements and appealing assessments at every level of tribunal and court
- advice on voluntary disclosure of tax evasion and disclosure submissions
- negotiations with tax authorities on tax rulings and advance pricing agreements and in mutual agreement procedures
ABOUT YOU
We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies. We have however given an indicative PQE as an approximate guide for applicants. Candidates who have between 4 – 7 years PQE are likely to have the right level of knowledge and have gained the right level of experience needed to be able to undertake this role.
The ideal candidates will:
- Have a professional qualification in tax, accountancy, or law
- Have experience working in a professional tax environment with experience in direct tax controversy
- Possess strong technical skills, with an international awareness and focus to their work
- Be able to demonstrate an excellent academic record and the ability to manage more junior team members
- Be able to create and deliver sustainable, high quality client service whilst also considering client’s wider business objectives
- Be keen to get involved in business development
- Be able to handle multiple priorities, working to sometimes conflicting timescales in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- Build trust and rapport to develop effective relationships, internally and externally
