Job Details

Our Commercial and Insurance Recoveries team specialises in pursuing recovery and contribution claims across a wide range of insured and uninsured risks, including claims for damage to property as a result of fires, floods, subsidence, defective premises and contractors' negligence as well as recovery claims arising out of personal injury. The team is part of our well established Insurance Disputes practice, which has received recognition as a team to watch in the insurance market.

We now have a new opportunity for a 2-4 PQE Lawyer to join the team in our Bristol office.

So what will you be doing?

You will have a varied caseload of recovery claims arising out of a wide range of insured and uninsured events,  including damage to commercial and residential property by fire, escapes of water, subsidence and flooding, damage to underground telecoms apparatus caused by third party contractors,  financial losses arising from employee theft or fraud,  damage to fine art, and contribution claims arising out of claims for personal injury. We specialise in working on behalf of major insurance companies, for whom you will also have the opportunity to advise on matters relating to policy coverage. You will also be defending claims for property damage on behalf of our corporate clients.

You'll be given the opportunity to build strong relationships with our clients, delivering expert commercial advice and assisting in the long term development of the firm's Insurance Disputes practice. Our team of lawyers have an exceptional track record with many of our lawyers referenced in the leading legal directories.

In this role you will also be responsible for supervising and mentoring Paralegals across our regional offices.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

You'll have experience in a team specialising in subrogated recovery claims arising out of property and commercial risks and be able to demonstrate a track record of providing commercial advice on  a variety of disputes in this field.

This role requires strong legal and technical skills but also a clear understanding of the issues commercial organisations and insurance companies face within this global, high profile and heavily regulated industry. We're looking for first class client care skills and the ability to build strong effective relationships.

You'll show strong intellectual ability, a thorough approach to complex legal analysis with swift assimilation of complicated sets of facts. Your written advice will be fluent yet concise and your high level of commercial understanding will enable you to address the client's overall objectives. Innovation and initiative are also key as you will be expected to help design and implement bespoke processes to improve efficiency, and to enhance the firm's reputation for embracing innovation and technology in the legal sector, which is an area we particularly pride ourselves in!

To be successful in this role, you'll need as a minimum:

  • Have at least 2 years of post qualified experience as UK (England, Wales or Scotland) Solicitor.
  • Technical excellence in respect of the law underpinning subrogated property damage recovery claims
  • Good financial management along with a strong financial track record.
