The role

We are recruiting an Engineer in the newly established Service Operations team within IT. The IT function is a key part of our business services and operates across International with key hubs in Leeds, Asia and Australia.

As Engineer you will have a broad experience in engineering and support in a Service and Operations environment and a deep understanding of the relevant fields of expertise (e.g. Infrastructure, Applications, Networks, Security etc.)

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong communications skills, both oral and written as well as having a thorough knowledge of the business and the technical aspects of the area being supported and the hardware and software environment in which it runs. 

Experience of Information systems concepts and practice as well as working in a fast paced, complex global environment with multiple regulatory requirements is a distinct advantage. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Within a broad area of competence, investigate incidents and problems and other requests for support and determine the appropriate action to take.
  • Provide advice and guidance to junior colleagues where required.
  • Monitoring progress of requests for support and ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed. 
  • Liaising with systems development staff and software suppliers on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems. 
  • Providing technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. 
  • Ensuring all tasks and procedures are carried out effectively and efficiently to agreed levels of service or specific requirements of Service or Operational level agreements. 
  • Documenting all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate. 
  • Analysing site survey reports and contributing to specifications of requirements and plans for installation and commissioning of hardware and software. 

ABOUT YOU

  • Strong communicator with the ability to engage and manage stakeholders from a variety of different backgrounds and disciplines.  
  • Knowledge of techniques for identifying, gathering and validating customers’ needs in the delivery of IT services. 
  • Understanding and application of different development approaches
  • Familiar with Infrastructure Architecture and Programming languages. 
  • Proficient in configuration management.
  • Understanding of Service Level Agreements, the purpose and composition of an SLA and the relationship between an SLA, an OLA and an underpinning contract for the supply of services.
  • Ability to apply automated systems to support specific business functions or processes and operational support systems. 
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure/System security.
  • Familiar with the principles and application of cloud/virtualisation and the use of tools and systems to manage virtualised environments. 
  • Knowledge of Corporate, Industry and Professional standards relevant to the IT industry and how to apply them.
  • Familiar with Database software such as MongoDB and NoSQL as well as Information retrieval tools. 
  • Proficient in Dictation & Document workflow management tools. 
  • Advanced MS Office knowledge & Experience.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Must be pro-active and solutions driven.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally , understanding the needs, objectives and constraints of those in other disciplines and functions.
