What sort of work? Right now, our highly regarded Real Estate Department is looking for an experienced Solicitor/Associate to join our growing team, based from either our Exeter or Bristol office.

In this role you will support the team in delivering a first-class service to clients in relation to a wide range of commercial real estate matters including in particular:

  • Residential development acquisitions and disposals, acting for developers and landowners
  • Disposals and acquisitions of affordable housing, acting for developers and registered providers
  • Provision of support in relation to promotion agreement transactions and options in respect of land with longer term development potential
  • A wide range of aspects linked to development work including overage arrangements, title due diligence, conditional contracts, easements, and tenancies.

Why this team? The Transactional Real Estate Team is a leading real estate team operating across all offices and including many individuals named as leading individuals in Chambers and Partners, and offers the full range of services to the Real Estate Sector.

We act for a wide range of private and public sector clients and we have particular specialisms in relation to residential development and the private wealth sector, the energy sector, charities, higher education institutions, healthcare, ecclesiastical, agriculture, retail and sporting facilities and leisure.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for somebody who will understand our values and thrive in our culture. We are looking for an ambitious and commercially astute lawyer, who has gained broad experience in residential development work and, who is now looking to develop their expertise further and help to grow the firm's offering this area.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2–4+ PQE in a commercial real estate practice, ideally with a focus on experience gained in the residential development sector or a clear interest to develop experience in that sector.
  • A genuine interest in promoting business development opportunities and an ability to build effective and positive relationships with clients and colleagues that embrace the importance of trust and collaboration.

Other skills required include:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective communicator at all levels (written and verbal).
  • A commercial, pro-active and professional approach to work.
  • Excellent organisational skills, demonstrable examples of multi-tasking and an ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Must interact well with others in a sensitive and effective way - a team player.
  • Must be self-motivated, committed to working towards goals with strong enthusiasm and career commitment.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and use of discretion. Must be flexible, successfully adapting to changing demands and conditions.
  • Demonstrate self-confidence, initiative and be an innovative thinker.
