The role
We are currently recruiting for an Associate to join DLA Piper’s global Real Estate team to be based in London.
With more than 600 lawyers globally, we have one of the world’s largest real estate teams, working across borders and consistently top-ranked around the globe. Our growth in the sector is directly linked to our clients’ growing needs -we have expanded to support our clients, who want consistent, high-quality real estate advice everywhere they operate.
Our lawyers have a vast range of experience and can advise on any area of real estate. We manage every type and size of transaction or project, and quickly mobilise teams of any size – anywhere.
We overlay our real estate practice area with a sector-based approach – allowing us to support clients throughout the entire life cycle of their investments. We offer a full range of real estate services in areas including financing, fund formation, acquisitions and disposals, tax efficiency, land use, environmental law, planning and development, construction and leasing across a broad range of asset classes.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of our market leading global team, candidates will enjoy a broad range of work acting for domestic and international institutional, developer and corporate clients from across the globe:
- Advising on complex and multi-faceted real estate transactions including structured investments and disposals, joint ventures and developments for both single asset and high end portfolios
- Advising on the sale, purchase and negotiation of commercial leases, including short term and longterm leases, the assignment and sub-letting of commercial property
- Advising on all aspects of real estate development and the real estate aspects of financing transactions
- Advising on the real estate aspects of corporate/M&A transactions; and
- Advising in relation to real estate/real estate loan portfolio transactions, including the purchase, sale and work-out of distressed assets
ABOUT YOU
We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies. We have however given an indicative PQE as an approximate guide for applicants. Candidates who have between 2 – 5 years PQE are likely to have the right level of
knowledge and have gained the right level of experience needed to be able to undertake this role.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be a qualified Solicitor, ideally qualified in England & Wales or a Commonwealth jurisdiction
- Have strong Real Estate experience gained in a leading City or international firm
- Be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the technical issues that are key to clients
- Have a desire to gain experience working across jurisdictions and advising international clients
- Have a proven track record of leading workstreams and negotiations
- Recognise and seize opportunities for the firm, including repeat business
- Build and develop own network of internal and external contacts
- Be commercially astute and stays current on key legal and business news
- Have excellent skills in communication, client relations, and team-working
- Be aware of business development initiatives in the department and identifies ways to contribute
- Maintain a controlled, objective and flexible approach under pressure; and
- Be proactive and innovative
