What sort of work? This role will be focussed on predominately non-contentious matters, in particular agricultural landlord and tenant, partnerships, joint ventures and other rural enterprise matters.

You will have the opportunity to get involved in business development initiatives, our partners already have a strategy to build the practice and this role will get involved with preparing for seminars, drafting e-mail bulletins and participating in Business development events.

Why this team? Our highly regarded Agriculture team is ranked in the Top Tier in Chambers and the Legal 500. This is the largest agriculture team in the Country with over twenty lawyers serving estates, farms, rural businesses, and public sector clients across England and Wales.

Why now? The Agriculture team serves the estate management and business development needs of a growing number of estates, farming businesses, and institutional clients, who value dedicated sector focus, which comes with knowledge and expertise. The team already has a group dedicated to the transactional work in this area, but due to growth in the volume of work, is looking for an Associate to grow with the team, and develop their career in this exciting area.

How do we work? The team operates primarily from Bristol, with attendance in Bristol expected at least once a week, along with regular attendance at another Michelmores offices. You will also get the opportunity for regular travel around England and Wales visiting farms, estates and referrers.

Who are we looking for? We are looking for somebody who will be a good fit for our team, understand our values and thrive in our culture.

The ideal candidate will have sound understanding of rural landlord and tenant work, and the agriculture / landed estates sector. Experience of partnerships, taxation of farming businesses and estates, commercial farming agreements and agricultural workers tenancies would be advantageous.

Other skills required include:

  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective communicator at all levels (written and verbal).
  • A commercial, pro-active and professional approach to work.
  • Excellent organisational skills, demonstrable examples of multi-tasking and an ability to juggle competing priorities.
  • Must interact well with others in a sensitive and effective way - a team player.
  • Must be self-motivated, committed to working towards goals with strong enthusiasm and career commitment.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality and use of discretion. Must be flexible, successfully adapting to changing demands and conditions.
  • Demonstrate self-confidence, initiative and be an innovative thinker.
  • 3+ years PQE in a relevant role
