In concert with the BI Technology Leader, the Data Lead will provide an interface with the IT Operations team for all matters associated with the flow of data from operational systems through to Insight.
The BI Data Lead will provide technical input to the development of the Insight roadmap, providing considered and knowledgeable contributions to the proposed method for Insight enhancement. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- A significant contribution to the technical leadership of the Finance BI Reporting data processing.
- Mentoring of junior data-developers within the team.
- Robustness and accuracy of the Insight data process, between the ingestion of source data and the presentation of organised data to reporting mechanisms and user front-end systems.
- Maintenance of extant data processes, to ensure efficiency, performance and appropriateness in meeting the business requirement.
- Enhancement of existing data processes to support changed business requirements.
- Development of new data processes to support new and changed business requirements.
- Assist in the refinement of Agile Stories associated with the development of data processes
- Organise the assignment of work to 3rd party developers assigned to them for the duration of a project.
- Provide meaningful and achievable goals to the junior developers reporting to them.
- Ensuring the data solution for BI Reporting is in line with the overall business requirement and technical strategy.
EA Compliance
- Oversee the documentation of all programming design and process-analysis work
- Consult with infrastructure, project and product teams to ensure consistency with the enterprise architecture, as well as to consult as appropriate when it seems necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.
ABOUT YOU
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and technical skills
- Good leadership skills: experience leading small, focused data teams as well as third-party contributors.
- An ability to lead by example.
- An ability to assist in the understanding and translation of business issues and clearly formulate technical solutions to the issues
- Practical experience in working within a Scrum Agile development environment and delivering against a regular Sprint cadence.
- Practical experience in the interface between Agile development processes and ‘traditional’ project management activities and planning requirements would be desirable.
- Ability to perform code reviews, to lead the data development team in the application of good practice.
- Solid background in data manipulation, SQLScript programming, star schema data structures and data modelling for reporting.
- Good understanding of the integration of external data sources into the BI architecture.
- Very good working knowledge of SAP HANA, implementation and exploitation.
- Good knowledge of the integration between Business Objects and SAP HANA would be an advantage.
- Good understanding of related disciplines such as Master Data management (MDM), Metadata Management and Data Governance
- Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, infrastructure and operations.
- A strong sense of ‘ownership’ and responsibility in the solutions developed and in their team.
- Experience of working within a corporate Finance department is desirable, though not mandatory.
