Job Details

We have an exciting opportunity for a Risk and Compliance Lawyer to join WBD's General Council team with a difference. We're looking for someone wanting to use and develop their existing skills and at the same time contribute to the huge variety of challenges that face a team sitting at the heart of the firm's risk and best practice strategy and management. You'll be a valued member of a friendly, flexible and supportive team, working together in a way that combines the benefits of being an in-house lawyer with the familiar environment of a law firm.

What will you be doing?

Reporting into the General Counsel, you'll play a vital part in ensuring best practices throughout the firm and manage all aspects of regulatory compliance but focussing in particular on the firm's client on-boarding processes and controls. You'll support our Business Acceptance Unit, MLRO network and wider fee earning community on escalations across complex conflict, financial crime and related risks applicable to the operation of our international business.

We have an exceptional client list of large and complex national and international organisations. A key part of your role will be to ensure the firm is comfortable acting in the particular circumstances of a matter, looking at risk levels presented and initiating further investigations where required. You'll also be advising on the professional conduct and ethical obligations of lawyers and ensuring the delivery of a range of assurance projects. Additionally there will be opportunities for you to support the development of training programmes and to champion change management and buy-in of policies/processes across the firm.

So what are we looking for?

We're ideally looking a qualified lawyer with at least 3 years PQE, who can demonstrate experience in dealing with complex Compliance and Risk Management, especially in respect of sanctions monitoring and financial crime suspicious activity escalations at a law firm. You'll also have a sound understanding of the nature of the work in a multinational corporate law firm, and how a top UK law firm works, its client base and the markets in which it operates. Great communication is fundamental to this role, not only will you need to have experience in managing and developing colleagues, but you'll need to be confident in having frequent conversations with stakeholders about compliance issues. On the systems side, you'll need working knowledge and the ability to use compliance systems and provide data analysis.
