Department/Role overview:

Do you like to tell a good story? Ashurst is hiring a Digital Communications Manager to ensure we are doing that every day. This role is an important contributor within the firm's global Brand, Marketing & Communications team, which drives Ashurst's success by telling the firm's story to build the brand and raise awareness of the business.

The successful candidate will lead our social media function and be responsible for the firm's social media channels globally, ensuring that Ashurst builds an engaged audience on the firm's chosen social media platforms around the world. This will include developing and delivering a new social media strategy with agency support. The role also particularly supports social media activity in EMEA/UK and the US, helping the firm to tell effective stories that motivate our target audiences to learn more about the firm, engage with the content, and ultimately work with us. The role also works closely with our Senior External Communications Executive on the creation of content to be used across the firm's digital channels, including video and podcasts.

Main responsibilities:

  •  Develop the firm's global social media strategy, working with the Head of PR & External Communications and senior marketing stakeholders.
  •  Lead on delivering the firm's global social media strategy, in particular with the support of the Social Media Executive (Australia based).
  •  Work within the global Brand, Marketing & Communications (BMC) team to grow brand awareness and drive engagement across the firm's social media and paid media channels.
  •  Advise on social media best practice, and deliver compelling owned and paid content, as part of wider marketing and communications initiatives. These could include strategic marketing initiatives, corporate news, thought leadership, etc.
  •  Lead on agency relationships including briefing, developing content and paid for media strategies.
  •  Lead on social media strategy and messaging development for global leadership. Advise and support senior stakeholders more generally to enhance their personal presence on social media.
  •  Lead the development of the firm's social media capabilities in EMEA/US, delivering training both to BMC colleagues and the wider business, with a focus on using LinkedIn to enhance the profile of our people.
  •  Track the external news agenda, and the firm's priorities, to actively identify items of interest and impact for our social media channels.
  •  Provide assistance in relation to podcast and video production for external use, which includes preparing and reviewing scripts and briefs, and liaising with production agencies to manage the production process.
  •  Report on digital channel performance, analysing monthly trends and marcoms initiative impact, and deploying insights to ensure continuous improvement of our digital communications.
  •  Curate social channel content and manage content schedules to focus support on the firm's strategic priorities.
  •  Deliver an effective employee advocacy strategy to maximise brand awareness and engagement with social media content from our staff.

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

  •  At least 4 years' relevant experience, preferably in a B2B environment.
  •  In-depth knowledge of the power of, and how to effectively leverage social media and broader digital marketing, and a desire to learn and apply new developments that can drive brand awareness and audience engagement.
  •  Experience developing and delivering social media strategies.
  •  Experience managing social media channels and a passion for growing and engaging online audiences.
  •  Deep understanding of how social media platforms work; experience in training others to use them both in person and online.
  •  Experienced and skilled in producing quick, clean and engaging copy for digital channels, including under time pressure.
  •  Sub-editing/proof reading skills and an ability to work to a style and brand guide.
  •  A good eye for design, and an ability to capture or source photographic material to support content.
  •  Ability to develop strategically-aligned editorial calendars and content plans.
  •  Experience managing agency relationships and briefings.
  •  Experience working on multi-channel digital campaigns including social media, PPC and display.
  •  Demonstrated experience working with a variety of stakeholders across various levels within an organisation.
  •  Demonstrate excellent communications and networking experience and skills in a wide range of situations, and with people at all levels within the organisation, including global leadership.
  •  A strong team player and lateral thinker, comfortable working collaboratively, virtually and independently.
  •  Experience training or presenting to large groups in person or online.
  •  Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  •  Demonstrate the ability to manage several projects concurrently, with excellent time management and organisational skills.
  •  Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity, as this role will involve daily interaction with people in countries globally
  •  Personable, enthusiastic and proactive.

Desired skills and experience:

  •  Preferably educated to degree level.
  •  B2B/professional services experience.
  •  Experience in leading on social media within multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  •  Experience creating and editing graphics.
  •  Experience in reporting and scheduling tools such as Sprout Social and Google Analytics.
  •  Knowledge of key business, industry and legal media outlets, including trending topics that can be used to enhance engagement with social media and digital content.
  •  Experience with copywriting, particularly in drafting marketing content that is engaging, client focused, and persuasive.
  •  Experience with drafting content for senior leadership.
