Job Details
Our Commercial Disputes team tackle our clients' most significant and complex cases operating in the Court of Session and Sheriff Courts across Scotland. The team also offer our clients expertise in alternative dispute resolution.
We now have a new opportunity to join our highly successful team based in our central Edinburgh office. The team work on a hybrid basis and can also accommodate part time hours.
What is the role?
You'll be part of our national team who advise blue chip/FTSE organisations on contractual and corporate disputes. Disputes can range from supply chain, IT disputes, breach of contracts and warranty claims through to fraud, misrepresentation, advice on directors duties and much more. You'll experience a wide range of work across all our sectors including financial services, technology, retail, public services, private wealth, energy, transport and healthcare.
The role will see you based in Edinburgh, focusing on Scottish litigation but with an opportunity to work with the wider commercial disputes team across our other UK offices. You'll be expected to build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally.
What does the ideal candidate look like?
We're keen to see applications from commercial disputes lawyers who can demonstrate experience in commercial dispute resolution in the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session. Insolvency experience is desirable but not essential. You'll be a bright and resilient lawyer who is excited at the prospect of working in a busy and supportive environment.
Whatever your experience level, or background, you'll need excellent drafting skills, a sense of commercial pragmatism, a bright mind and a strong team ethos to help further develop the team's client base. You'll also need to be motivated to participate in business development that helps to raise the profile of the team and the wider Edinburgh office.
What makes it great to work here?
We continually work hard to create an open culture that sets us apart from other firms. Our culture gives us much more of a human feel, emphasising that we're more than just suits! We like and make time for each other enabling us to establish professional relationships that can often become lasting friendships.

We have a Diversity and Inclusion Group, led by our Board Sponsor, which works with our colleague networks (we currently have firm supported networks for race, ethnicity, and cultural heritage, LGBTQ+, disabilities, families, and women's career development and we're in constant dialogue with our people about how we expand our networks to better support everybody). We encourage applicants from all social backgrounds, ethnicities, disabilities, gender identities and sexual orientations. Please get in touch to let us know how we can give you the best possible recruitment experience.
As signatories to the Mindful Business Charter, it's important that our people are able to maintain healthy and happy lives, both in and out of work. We have a number of resources and initiatives designed to support health and wellbeing, including our team of dedicated mental health first aiders. We recognise that getting the right work life balance is a priority for all of us and we're very happy to talk flexible working, full-time or part-time working patterns. We also recognise the challenges of relocation and post-pandemic return to the office.
And that's not all, alongside a competitive salary you'll receive a flexible benefits package so you can choose and vary the benefits that matter most to you.
