Position Summary

Providing dedicated regional business development manager level support to the Competition Section in the EMEA region (the “Section”) and working on a daily basis with the partners and lawyers across the Section to support business development activities.

Duties and Accountabilities

The role will be to support the Section’s practices, including: Antitrust; International Trade; Intellectual Property and Public law (including EU regulatory).   

Responsibilities of the role are varied and will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing dedicated support across relevant offices in the Section, but particularly Brussels, Geneva and London;
  • Leading the preparation of the Section’s pitches, proposals, capability statements and other marketing materials;
  • Proactively initiating ideas for (and executing) new and existing client relationship development activities including events, sponsorships, thought leadership and other innovative projects/ campaigns;
  • Working with the team to identify and develop a pipeline of opportunities for the Section;
  • Overseeing the sponsorship and events tracker for the Section and taking a leading role in coordinating certain strategic sponsorship arrangements; 
  • Updating and maintaining marketing collateral as well as regularly reviewing key selling messages and lawyer profiles for internal and external use;
  • Assisting in gathering and organising information about the Section, its lawyers, clients/prospects, clients and the marketplace, and ensuring such information is effectively used and distributed;
  • Managing and developing the Section’s profile and presence on the Firm’s intranet and website;
  • Producing and disseminating internal and external BD updates relating to the Section; 
  • Helping to drive the implementation of industry and client action plans in support of the Section’s business plans, and related business development initiatives in EMEA and globally;
  • Overseeing the maintenance of databases to ensure matters are correctly profiled and entered into the Firm’s Matter Profile System database, and opportunities are captured in the Firm’s CRM database;
  • Working with the knowledge team to develop and manage campaigns and client alerts, including monitoring the practice’s client contact lists;
  • Carrying out client, market, sector and decision maker research and analysis as required;
  • Developing and managing the Section’s priority client contacts;
  • Working closely with the events team, as required, to deliver event support, both internal and external;
  • Supporting the drafting of submissions for legal directories (GCR 100, Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, etc.) and award entries;
  • Highlighting/identifying profile raising opportunities and assisting the central PR team with the drafting of press releases where appropriate;
  • Facilitating the sharing of information with marketing colleagues in other offices and practices; and
  • Other ad hoc projects as required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate with relevant and in depth business development experience in a professional services firm.
  • Relevant marketing or a post-graduate qualification would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral – and ability to work at all levels.
  • Track record of delivering effective pitches and proposals.
  • Impactful and assertive.

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Exposure to client relationship management would be advantageous.

Location and Reporting

  • The role is based in either London or Brussels but the scope is EMEA-wide and may involve travel
