We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a professional, engaging individual to join us as a Knowledge & Information Officer, leading our London-based K&I Team.

ROLE OVERVIEW 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Knowledge & Information Officer (KIO) to join our Knowledge &

Innovation (K&I) team on a permanent contract.

The successful candidate will be embedded in our highly respected, market-leading Corporate group, and will work closely with the group’s Knowledge & Information Manager, Professional Support Lawyers, Trainees, Associates, Partners, and other members of the wider Knowledge & Innovation team.

The successful candidate will support a broad range of knowledge management work, current awareness activity, and provide research support to fee earners and other Business Services functions, including Business Development. The KIO will also be involved in organising, designing, and delivering training, supporting project work and helping to evaluate and suggest appropriate online and hard copy resources for the group.

The K&I is a friendly and supportive team, comprising Information Services and the Knowledge & Innovation Team (KIT); and the KIO role sits in the Information Services half of the department. The successful candidate will report directly to the Corporate Knowledge & Information Manager, but will also have reporting line to a group-based Counsel PSL and will have a wide range of interactions with all members of the wider K&I team.

Training and development opportunities are available to help team members to provide an excellent, professional and expert service to the practice and the firm, as well as to support their ongoing professional development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.

Knowledge management

A significant and essential part of this role is focused on knowledge management, and the KIO will take responsibility for:

  • Proactively collecting, summarising and publishing internal legal knowhow onto the firm’s Knowledge Management database.

  • Developing, maintaining and publishing content to the relevant parts of the firm’s intranet.

Attending, and proactively contributing to, relevant group meetings and training sessions pertaining to Knowledge Management issues.

Current awareness

  • Inputting into - and providing editorial support for - a weekly Corporate Newsletter, consisting of a wide range of internal know how and external materials of interest to the Corporate practice.

  • Proactively tracking legislative changes, case law and other materials of interest to the group, and cascading details of these quickly and efficiently.

Research and Enquiries Management

  • Answering a broad range of queries and providing a timely research service to the practice on legal, commercial and market topics.

Staff a dedicated Enquiries Desk (located in the firm’s main library) once or twice per week, answering a range of queries from around the firm.

Training and knowledge sharing

  • Developing, organizing, promoting and delivering regular training sessions on the firm’s Knowledge Management system, and on external legal and business resources.

  • Attendance at, and proactive participation in, Departmental meetings.

  • Responding to requests for deskside training on specific resources.

Project work

  • Involvement in group and cross-stream project work, as appropriate.

Resource Management

  • Keep up-to-date with developments in research sources (particularly electronic databases).

  • Evaluate practice-specific products and resources as appropriate, to ensure they continue to support practice needs.

  • Evaluate new products and services, flagging with the Group PSLs, the Head of Information Services, and the Information services

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Candidates for this position must have:

  • Be a confident and articulate communicator, dealing effectively with a wide range of people at all levels.

  • Be prepared to challenge the status quo and suggest how tasks and/or relevant processes
    can be improved upon.

  • Present clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles. 

  • Have excellent online research skills.

  • Be a good team player, contributing to the team, offering support to colleagues and sharing information and best practice freely.

  • Have excellent attention to detail.

  • Have experience of designing and delivering, or a willingness to design and deliver, training.

  • Be proactive, prepared to take a hands-on approach to managing workload and dealing with conflicting priorities, and using their own initiative.

  • Take an active interest in Knowledge & Information related developments, including in the field of legal tech and innovation.

  • Procurement team any that may add value to the practice (or that may plug an existing gap).

  • Work collaboratively with the Information Services Procurement Team to support new product trials.

  • Experience in the area of corporate/M&A would be advantageous, but is not essential as full on-the-job training will be provided. A willingness to acquire knowledge of, and take a keen interest in, this area of law is however essential.
