Job Details

Digital team specialist Practice Development Lawyer (PDL) - Hybrid working

A new senior and client-facing PDL role leveraging your digital (information technology, privacy and data protection) expertise and experience gained through private practice and/or in-house.   You will be reporting directly to our Digital team partners and liaising closely with both our firmwide PDL network, and our business development (BD) team.

This strategically important role which is in an investment area for the firm will focus on delivering targeted services specifically to anticipate client needs, inform our Digital team's activity, building our reputation and expertise, and delivering excellent client service.  These could include:

  • Delivering strategic insight and market knowledge
  • Leading on the application of new technology and innovation to our team's activities
  • Horizon Scanning
  • Thought leadership (drafting articles, hot topics, opinion pieces, and commentary) including for use in soon to be launched cross-media marketing campaigns
  • Scoping, preparing and delivering excellent training with clients and internally
  • Profile raising, including involvement with campaigns
  • Driving efficiencies, drawing together different strands of work across multiple disciplines
  • Networking, influencing and liaising with external stakeholders (eg industry and government bodies) and internal stakeholders (eg WBD US, Lex Mundi)
  • Running client blogs and other social media channels
  • Assisting with tenders and pitches
  • Dealing with queries from lawyers
  • Participating on client service teams and client relationship management, sector strategy, and business development calls
  • Regular communication and coordinating activity with the relevant BD sector manager

The ideal candidate will have approximately 10+ years' experience of working with clients on technology and data related projects in private practice or in an in house role.  A genuine interest in and curiosity around developments in all things tech (including in the way it is used and regulated) is key as much of our clients' needs are in areas which are constantly developing and where the law struggles to keep pace.  With the freedom to help us develop our practice through thought leadership across multiple channels, the role would be well suited to someone with an inquisitive mind and who enjoys interacting with a broad community of clients and colleagues in an open and collaborative way.

We have a hybrid working policy in place and can be flexible in terms of location and home-working.  However, the ability to travel to one of our regional offices (Leeds, Southampton, Bristol, Newcastle, Plymouth or Edinburgh) when necessary would be essential for collaborative team-working.
