We are currently recruiting for a Unified Communication Infrastructure Architect to join IT in the London or Belfast office on a two year contract basis.

The Architecture team within IT are primarily accountable for setting the future direction of technology at Allen & Overy. This includes providing:

  • Architecture advice, technical oversight and decision making
  • Definition and creation of technology roadmaps
  • Definition of architecture, domain principles and architectural artefacts
  • Providing consultation and advice to all areas of the business on strategy, technology and ways of working
  • Technical governance and design assurance across the entire IT portfolio
  • Technology option assessment, product selection and prototyping
  • Technical expertise for projects that primarily grow and transform our business

What you’ll do in this role

  • Define the multi-year Unified Communications (UC) strategy as input to the project portfolio. Providing business case information such as justification, benefits, resourcing and budgetary profiles.
  • Provide technical thought leadership through defining, owning and delivering A&O’s UC architecture roadmap.
  • Curating and authoring architecture designs, using iterative, agile, evolutionary processes
  • Defining standards, patterns and best practices across UC platforms and ensuring alignment through the design review process
  • Provides direction and guidance on projects ensuring all strategy, architecture, standards, patterns, principles and roadmap outputs are published. Quickly resolving any technical design issues that may arise in relation to these.
  • Provide technical expertise and support for service management in the resolution of complex incidents and problems.
  • Attending and participating in the Architecture Review Board (ARB)
  • Liaising with IT Service Management and business stakeholders
  • Attending and participating in Change Approval Board (CAB) reviews
  • Championing and raising core architecture skills
  • Communicating and explaining UC strategy and roadmaps to a broad audience
  • Challenges the status quo, identifies opportunities in existing and emerging technologies and takes ownership to improve the IT service.
  • Sharing knowledge with a collaborative mind set
  • Training and guidance on architecture patterns and best practices

Most importantly, this position will need to create and support a culture of continual improvement and problem solving and where necessary, being enthusiastic and creative in adopting an agile, evolutionary architecture culture

You should apply if you bring

  • Extensive knowledge of Enterprise voice, VC and collaboration technologies.
  • Recent UC architecture experience working across a complex global enterprise
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure architecture, patterns, frameworks, and techniques
  • In depth understanding of MS Teams direct routing, enterprise voice and video, with experience of using Teams as the primary communications system within an enterprise
  • Good technical knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) infrastructure
  • A good understanding of Session Border Controllers and SIP Trunking
  • A good understanding of Contact Centre solutions, used on helpdesk systems.
  • Knowledge of Video Communication infrastructure and solutions, with integrations between different video platforms in particular MS Teams.
  • Understanding of different call flow capabilities within MS Teams.
  • Understanding of telephony security and access restriction capabilities within MS Teams.
  • Understanding and experience of telephone number dial plans.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Webex and Jabber solutions
  • Architecture excellence and rigour
  • Entrepreneurial and pro-active attitude to seeing and fulfilling business opportunities
  • Prominent level of personal credibility, impact, and influence with all levels of the business
  • Commercial acumen including an understanding of the overall picture of how to add value to the business
  • Experience of agile working methods and work item tracking tools

You will stand out if you bring

  • Voice migrations from traditional PABX systems, or Cisco CUCM to MS Teams.
  • Experience of a global MS Teams enterprise telephony deployment
  • Experience with the ININ helpdesk system
  • Hands-on experience with agile and waterfall architecture at scale at all levels
  • Experience of working with DevOps or DevSecOps teams
  • Personal architecture presentations and or public code repositories
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and Azure Cloud
  • Architecture articles or blogs you have authored or contributed to
  • Examples of your influence and transformations in the field of UC architecture
  • Experience of working in highly-regulated sectors
  • Knowledge of Behaviour Driven Development (BDD)
