Department/Role overview:

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Business Development Manager to join our global Business Development team based in London.

This role is responsible for developing and executing high quality business development and marketing initiatives for our Funds industry and practice groups across EMEA/US. The KPIs for this role are revenue, profitability and pipeline driven.

The funds team at Ashurst is a multi-product, multi-jurisdictional platform providing advice to Alternative Investment Funds relating to capital raising (fund formation) and capital deployment across the key areas of funds focus.

The global reach and full service platform mean we are able to provide a single point of top tier legal service to Alternative Investment Funds, bringing the industry expertise in our other focus industries to our fund clients. The right candidate will be expected to operate across the entire AIF platform with the following tasks central to their role:

Main responsibilities:

This is a market, client and partner facing role. Responsibilities cross the entire BD and marketing mix, including CRM, industry strategy, , and significant ad-hoc projects (client targeting, practice growth initiatives etc) and team management.

Market leadership

  • Proactively tracking client and industry news and trends, engaging directly with the market to identify revenue generation opportunities and driving those opportunities to their ultimate conclusion.
  • Coordinating the delivery of the Funds industry plan. This includes our go-to-market strategy and our approach to industry publications/briefings, alignment with industry bodies, prioritisation and organisation of industry conferences, and general events and profile raising initiatives across the industries.
  • Working with the Industry Partner team, alongside the wider Industry BD team and, where appropriate, relevant Expertise Lawyers to develop a thought leadership strategy designed to reinforce our drive towards market leadership in the Funds industry.
  • Monitor client and market developments and deliver relevant and focused information to the Funds team.

Client Relationship Management

  • Responsibility for the CRM of some of the firm's leading clients in the Funds industry. This includes direct client engagement and hands on client management.
  • Responsibility for the coordination and best practice of any secondments to those clients.
  • Responsibility for ensuring the compilation, implementation and delivery of global client account plans.
  • Directly supporting the delivery of Relationship Agreement commitments.
  • Analysing existing client relationships and, using gap analysis, identify and drive cross selling opportunities.
  • Working with the broader client teams, actively gather client listening feedback across key clients in the Funds industry, reporting back on results, trends arising and taking ownership of actions.

Operations

  • Contribute to and lead various central marketing and business development initiatives, as required.
  • Continually support an improvement in the efficiency of our systems for winning, keeping and cross-selling clients, so that tasks are performed quickly and to a high standard.
  • Manage the BD budget for the Funds Industry team.
  • Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Significant front line Business Development experience - ideally, will have worked within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Ability to juggle a busy and varied workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in motivating, developing and nurturing juniors.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing budgets.
  • Determination and commitment to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written skills.
  • Lateral and creative thinker with the ability to overcome obstacles.
  • Team player.
  • Experience in meeting with external clients and attending client relationship meetings, is beneficial
  • Knowledge of the financial services sector, specifically investment management, is beneficial
