Purpose of role

Dentons UK, Ireland and Middle East are looking to recruit a Reporting Business Analyst as part of the implementation of a new reporting solution in conjunction with the wider upgrade of the firm's financial management system globally.

The firm has a well-established reporting warehouse and multi-dimensional reporting cube that is heavily used by the business to drive decision making at both a strategic and transactional level. Due to the upgrade of the firm's financial system, a strategy review has taken place with the view to enhance and improve the firm's reporting utilising the Azure cloud and Microsoft's latest reporting stack.

The upgrade of the Firms financial reporting catalogue and data warehouse will form part of the reporting work stream within the firm's Global Finance Transformation Programme (GFTP). The role will report into the Technical lead and interact with many different stakeholders, primarily from Finance and IT departments, along with exposure to Senior Management within the business.

The GFTP is a truly global program designed to transform Dentons' finance function into the business partnering function of the future. It will support the business by offering true business insight, efficient and effective processes while maintaining the necessary compliance and controls.


Key Deliverables

  • Involvement in the initial business requirements and analysis phase and presenting areas of opportunity to strategically align the design to the firms reporting strategy
  • Compile the current reporting portfolio from multiple data sources and provide recommendations for the solution.
  • Identify gaps within business processes and data sets and understand how to bring various functions together to make them more productive.
  • Design and explain visually pleasing and easy to navigate data visuals, to explain in layman’s terms what the data is telling people and what business decisions can be made to improve the current state.
  • Analyse the current way the business operates in the reporting space and identify opportunities for improvement and be able to consult to C-Suite/Board level on findings
  • Collate and analyse the business’ data to understand how best to create insights/analytics and  provide recommendations
  • Own the reporting solution design and ensure that it is accurately developed and tested
  • Work closely with the regional process leads to ensure the design is understood and appropriate for all geographies and practice groups
  • Provide effective and timely status reports to the regional GFTP leadership team
  • Ensure that the appropriate levels of documentation are provided and kept up to date, to support the solution design

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the external reporting consultancy to deliver the design according to the agreed methodology
  • Support the regional leadership in driving the solution design to the region for acceptance and sign-off
  • Build close relationships with the key stakeholders in the region
  • Be the gatekeeper to the acceptance of the Business Intelligence implementation throughout the phases of work.
  • To be proactive in seeking updates, in reaching out to technical teams across the Firm and in identifying potential project timelines slips and blockers
  • Understand how the architecture and infrastructure can support the reporting solution and where possible future proof the design for long term return on investment in the programme
  • To be the champion for change requests that are required to the design and see them through the governance process
  • To become the key contact for solution design related questions
  • Escalate design issues and blockers

Required experience, skills and attributes

  • At least 3+ years' experience in a business/data analysis role
  • Excellent stakeholder management experience at a national and international level
  • Experience of data visualisations, data warehouses and insights tools such Power BI, Microsoft reporting stack (advantageous)
  • Legal and or finance systems experience (desirable)
  • Be able  to present confidently to Partners/Directors of the business

Office based - Office based workers are those who need to be in the office every day as their physical presence is intrinsically linked to their specific role, this applies to a small proportion of our workforce/teams.

Virtual workers – Our virtual workers have no need to attend an office and as such, are fully remote. We have successfully implemented this model across both our Legal Delivery Centre and ARC real estate teams. Members of these teams are provided with all necessary equipment and an allowance to create a workspace in their own home and won't be expected to come to an office. At the moment all virtual workers must be in the based in UK.

Hybrid workers – For the majority of our workforce we have implemented a hybrid model whereby there is no minimum (or maximum) number of days they must work from an office location. Instead we give them the freedom to decide with their team how efficiently and effectively they can deliver the best service to our clients, work with our colleagues and progress their own personal development whilst recognizing the need to adjust plans where circumstances require. Each hybrid worker is given an allowance to create a workspace in their own home.
