Job Description

We are currently looking to recruit a talented newly qualified lawyer to join the London pensions team focusing on non-contentious pensions work.

The Team

The Pinsent Masons LLP pensions team is one of the strongest pensions teams in the UK.  Working across our offices in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh and Glasgow we have around 90 highly trained lawyers (including 20 partners), paralegals and pensions consultants, all dedicated to providing clear, practical, cost-effective advice for our clients.

Legal directories such as Legal 500 and Chambers consistently rate us as a top tier practice across all the locations in which we operate, with many of our team also being individually ranked or named. Our clients include, trustees, large global corporations, public authorities, pension providers and other financial institutions and we work across the market, advising on the full range of non-contentious and contentious issues. Some highlights are:-

  • We advise many of the largest schemes in the market on complex and high value projects, with our clients including numerous household and pensions industry names
  • Our pension provider practice is market-leading and we act for around two-thirds of the current authorised DC master trusts
  • Our experience and growing practice in pension buy-ins, buy-outs and longevity hedging transactions is cutting edge. Last year we advised on over £3bn of de-risking transactions, which accounts for around 10% of the total transactions in the market

The Candidate Required

The successful candidate will:

  • ideally have completed a seat in the pensions team of a London firm or large regional practice or in-house
  • be a team player, able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues in an agile environment;
  • be technically strong and able to exercise good commercial judgment;
  • have the strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop strong relationships with clients and market contacts and across the wider firm

The role is wide-ranging. In addition to providing advice on technical pensions law issues across the many different work types that the team covers, the successful candidate can expect involvement in client and market-facing activities from the outset – including client meetings, training sessions and networking and can also expect to work routinely not only with colleagues in London but across the national pensions team

What will we offer you?

  • We are a market leading, dynamic and growing team who work together to produce outstanding results for our clients.
  • We invest in our team and have a first-class training and career development programme, monthly 121s, career discussions and annual appraisals. Our training reflects our position as a market leader in communications and sourcing. Our training will assist you to develop as a specialist with valuable sector knowledge and the ability to deliver "best of breed" services.
  • Early responsibility and opportunities to develop client relationships.
  • A starting salary of £92k (effective from September 2022) and benefits package including a generous bonus scheme
