Job Description

We are currently looking to recruit an environmental Lawyer to join our market leading environment practice to be based ideally in any of our Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham offices or our Edinburgh and Glasgow offices.  We are ideally looking for a candidate with 2-6 years’ post qualification experience. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a broad range of environmental and regulatory matters (both contentious and non-contentious) and be part of a team with senior top ranked specialists.

What our Planning & Environment team is known for:

Our environment practice sits without our market leading Planning & Environment, Energy and Infrastructure team.  We are the largest dedicated planning and environment team in the UK with specialists covering a wide range of major projects across the Energy, Infrastructure and Real Estate sectors.  Our experts cover the full range of environmental law.  This includes (i) regulatory advice, including permitting for energy and industrial installations; (ii) nuclear regulatory advice; (iii) projects and transactional advice; (iii) litigation and regulatory enforcement (including climate change litigation); (iv) net zero, carbon and energy efficiency advice, including apportionment of carbon reduction costs, nature based solutions, offsetting and EU ETS and UK ETS compliance;  and (v) support for our major infrastructure consenting and development planning teams, where our experience of EIA, Habitats Regulation Assessments, Water Framework Directive Assessments, Biodiversity Net Gain, remediation through the planning system and delivery of low carbon solutions places us apart from other environment teams.

The candidate will be part of a national practice and will have exposure to not only pure environment work, but also have the opportunity to work alongside our leading consenting lawyers, as well as the wider firm.

Key Clients include:

  • Advising the Environment Agency on all environment aspects of the £640m River Thames Scheme, the largest flood defence scheme in the UK, which would protect 15,000 homes, 2000 businesses and 300km of highway.
  • Advising Plastic Collective on a contractual structure to enable and fund projects mostly in developing nations to collect and recycle waste plastic, which generate “plastic credits”
  • Acting for Drax Power Limited on its Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) project.
