THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently recruiting for an associate to join DLA Piper's global Construction and Engineering, Real Estate team to be based in Dublin.

By joining our growing Construction and Engineering team, you will have a wide platform to progress your career and become an integral leader within the team and to manage high-profile construction projects. 

Our Real Estate team offers a full range of services in areas including acquisitions and disposals, construction law, financing, commercial real estate, land use, planning and development, leasing, environmental law, insurance and tax. 

To have maximum impact, you will deliver innovative commercial results to our diverse and international client base. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is your opportunity to advise clients on all aspects of high profile/complex non-contentious construction matters.

Supporting the Firm’s existing client base, as well as assisting in the winning of new clients, in the areas of commercial projects (logistics, office, retail, hotels), real estate finance (including development finance where the Dublin office has a strong and growing practice), infrastructure and transport, energy (an area in which the Dublin office is making a large investment to meet client demand), water and utilities, life sciences and data centre development. 

You will advise on all manner of procurement methods, from commercial developments to major international, domestic, civil and process engineering and energy projects, and assist clients in analysing the risk profile of their projects and selecting the best type of delivery method for the project and negotiate the required contracts.

You will deliver exceptional results to our clients on a broad range of complex issues including:

  • All aspects of contract drafting and negotiation including all the major standard forms of contract including RIAI, NEC and FIDIC
  • Transactional due diligence
  • Risk analysis and management
  • Preparation and reviewing of peripheral documents (e.g. bonds, guarantees and collateral warranties)
  • Considering and advising in respect of relevant commercial issues; and
  • Advising clients with the drafting, negotiation and management of non-traditional procurement methords

ABOUT YOU

We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies. We have however given an indicative PQE as an approximate guide for applicants. Candidates who have between 3 and 6 years' PQE are likely to have the right level of knowledge and have gained the right level of experience needed to be able to undertake this role. 

  • Have strong experience gained in a leading Irish, city, regional or international firm
  • All aspects of contract drafting and negotiation including all the major standard forms of contract including RIAI, NEC and FIDIC
  • Comply with professional standards and all relevant regulatory obligations
  • Experience working across a variety of sectors 
  • Commercially astute and stay current on key legal and business news
  • Excellent skills in communication, client relations, and team-working 
  • Provides a professional, quality service in a timely manner, and responds effectively to requests from internal and external clients 
  • Understands positive client support 
  • Creates confidence in the team and the firm 
  • Recognises and seizes opportunities for the firm, including repeat business 
  • Builds and develops own network of internal and external contacts 
  • Awareness of business development initiatives in the department and identifies ways to contribute 
  • Maintains a controlled, objective and flexible approach under pressure 
  • Proactive and innovative
