The Opportunity:

An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Assistant to join our highly successful private wealth team in Exeter. The purpose of this role is to assist the Private Wealth Partners and Private Wealth team with their administrative tasks. Acting for individuals, companies and trusts both in the UK and internationally, we undertake all types of private client work including the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney, Domestic Trusts, probate and income and capital tax planning. Internationally, we advise on residence and domicile planning and structuring both inbound and outbound.

What you'll be doing:

• Simple Land Registry searches and applications - severance of joint tenancy or registration of death of proprietor

• Searching strong room record and obtaining documents from strong room

• Dealing with correspondence from DPC i.e., printing letters and collating enclosures from file including copying and scanning

• Filing

• Obtaining archived files

• Opening files

• Archiving files

• Preparing new matter for fee earner e.g., copying previous wills and powers of attorney, putting them in file in readiness for first meeting

• Back up to PA to receive phone calls

• Witnessing wills and other documents with fee earner

• Paying in cheques including when assets are encashed in an estate

• Dealing with cheque requisitions

• Locating and sending out wills and deeds on request

• Seeing clients who bring in information or have a query (PA back-up)

• Amendments to letters and documents prepared by DPC to enable post to go out promptly

• Engrossing wills and deeds

• Organising trustees' meetings

• Circulating valuations

• Dealing with administrative queries from brokers and financial institutions

• Sending copy LPAs to clients

• Sending copy wills and other documents to clients

• Sending letters acknowledging payment of bills

What you'll need:

• Enthusiastic and flexible

• A positive and proactive attitude

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to effectively handle and prioritise competing demands and work within deadlines

• Strong attention to detail with a methodical and logical approach

• An effective and committed team player

• Ability to use initiative and apply common sense

• An ability to operate autonomously with minimum supervision – a self-starter

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information

• The flexibility to work outside normal hours may be required from time to time

• A thorough understanding in Microsoft Office

• Previous experience in an administrative role
