We are currently looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst Programmer on a 6 month FTC basis. This role will be based in our Glasgow office with hybrid working.


Department/Role overview:


The Ashurst software development team supports the development needs of the global firm, creating and maintaining internal and external facing solutions for its lawyers and its clients.

This is a senior development position within Ashurst's global software development team and will require the selected applicant to develop and maintain new and existing applications for the Ashurst business. They will provide programming and systems analysis skills to a range of IT projects primarily those with requirements around integrating, reporting or analysing data.

The primary technologies used within the firm for BI and ETL applications are Microsoft's BI and SQL development stacks with a particular focus for this position on SSIS, SSRS and T-SQL.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead software development work-streams providing end to end ownership including specification and design; estimation and planning; build; release; and support
  • Develop and support new and existing data integration processes using data modelling, ETL tools and software, database programming and scripting
  • Provide 3rd level support to in-house developed data applications; triage and resolve production issues, ensure correct behaviour of services, validate data and perform routine testing on databases and ETL applications
  • Document any required technical specifications or support documents for ETL and reporting solutions
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve business outcomes, maintaining constructive working relationships with IT peers
  • Liaise with business owners as required within the roleRisk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

  • A high level of commercial experience in the following technologies
    • Microsoft BI (SSIS, SSRS)
    • T-SQL and Microsoft database technologies
  • Experience developing and maintaining ETL and integration solutions in an enterprise environment
  • Strong experience working with typical integration patterns such as: SOAP, REST, XML, file based protocols, JSON API gateways and with encryption technologies and standards (file, database, web)
  • Experience of working in a scrum development methodology and of using Azure Devops, GIT or comparable forms of agile planning and source control
  • A tertiary qualification in a software development subject or be able to demonstrate equivalent commercial experience
  • Effective team-working, communication and interpersonal skills, maintaining and building working relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think efficiently and creatively

Desired skills and experience:

  • Experience in a legal setting or with legal software vendors (Thomson Reuters, IntApp, Lexis Nexus)
  • Experience with Oracle cloud, particularly HCM products
  • Experience with iPAAS, e.g. Boomi, MuleSoft and understanding of iPAAS integration patterns and best practices
