Department/Role overview:

We are seeking an experienced Scrum Master to join the IT Business Solutions team.

The successful candidate will work closely with our digital products and services team, Ashurst Advance Digital, and the our digital strategy team (both led by the firm's Chief Digital Officer) to support the development of new client platforms and solutions and, ultimately, the delivery of digital transformation within the firm.

The role will involve working in partnership with design, technology, legal and client teams, as well as external consultants, employing Agile and lean methodologies, adaptive project management and human-centred design principles.

In addition to providing hands-on support, there is the opportunity to help us to refine and shape our development processes and best practice. Beyond having the requisite prior experience on paper, being an excellent and collaborative communicator, demonstrating proactive behaviour and problem solving skills will be significant differentiators in our recruitment process.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead a team to deliver software development projects using agile methodologies.
  • Coordinate and facilitate team meetings including project planning, sprint planning, retrospectives, demos, daily stand ups and release planning activities.
  • Ensure that team commitments on delivery are met and that agile principals are adhered to.
  • In partnership with the Product Owner, create, order and maintain a Product Backlog, brokering discussions between the Product Owner and scrum team when needed.
  • Assist the team with making appropriate delivery commitment by means of story selection, task definition and refinement processes.
  • Empower the team to self-organise and facilitate a collaborative working environment with emphasis on individual responsibility.
  • Define useful and relevant KPIs and use these to measure the performance of the development process and report on the performance of the scrum team.
  • Provide guidance and coaching on Agile principals to scrum team members and the wider stakeholder and management group.

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Professional experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Delivery Manager or Agile Project Manager using the Scrum Methodology.
  • Experience with common Agile techniques: User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Automated Testing.
  • Experience managing interdependencies between agile teams and of delivering projects both with internal development teams and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Excellent communication skills and a track record of people and project leadership.
  • Experience with Azure Devops and Jira / Atlassian; administration of sprints, delivery of dashboards, reporting, wikis.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Qualification in a science, engineering or computing discipline is desirable, or an equivalent background as a Software Developer, Project Manager or Business Analyst.
  • Experience with assisting a historically waterfall organisation with adoption of Scrum.
  • Knowledge of frameworks that support delivering agile practices at enterprise scale (AgilePM, SAFE etc).
  • Project experience delivering solutions through Enterprise Content Management Systems within the Microsoft cloud environment.
  • Previous Legal sector experience.
