Job Details

With a national presence of over 200 fee earners across 8 locations our Real Estate team are a force to be reckoned with. The team is big bringing great opportunities to get involved in varied and interesting work while we are clustered in small groups enabling us to maintain great relationships. It's the quality and commerciality of our service, our industry insight and the talent and passion of our people that engages our clients, and they love what we do.

This role can be carried out on a flexible basis – whether part or full-time and with time working from home.  Some collaborative team work will be based at our office hubs so, whilst this team operates nationally, this role is best suited for somebody who sees either our Bristol or Southampton offices as their 'home base'.

What is the role?

This role is to work within our nationally recognised Real Estate Energy and Natural Resources team who have an impressive client base from across the globe, ranging from entrepreneurial new entrants and joint ventures to established independents, vertically integrated utilities, financial institutions, governments and world-wide energy giants.

This is a property role with an energy focus – that may mean working for an energy company on land options to operate a wind, solar or battery storage development through to work to move their office location or develop an operation and maintenance facility.  You'll experience a wide range of property work from development projects, acquisitions and disposals to landlord and tenant, asset management and portfolio management instructions for national and international energy clients; and as the team act on all real estate elements of major energy infrastructure developments, you'll see yourself involved in project development work for new generation projects in relation to both renewable energy transactions and mainstream power and pipeline projects.

Transactions are often high value and offer an excellent opportunity to be involved in high profile quality work.  Whilst experience in the energy sector would be an advantage, someone with good property experience could learn from the team and develop their skills.

Our Real Estate team has a deserved reputation for providing first-class legal advice, acting as trusted advisors to many of the key players across the sector. A number of our talented lawyers are listed as leaders in their field.

Working with the wider Real Estate team across the country there will be plenty of opportunity for client contact and you'll be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with these contacts. Business development is important for all of our lawyers, and you will be able to contribute to the growth of the team by assisting with the organisation of client events, writing articles for our website and other marketing activities.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

We're keen to see applications from enthusiastic real estate lawyers or newly qualified lawyers who've had exposure to quality real estate work during their training contracts ideally from a large regional or city firm.  While energy experience is preferred anyone with an interest in this specialist area would be considered - what's most important is that you have a genuine enthusiasm to build a career in this specialism.

You'll be a bright and resilient lawyer who is excited at the prospect of working in a busy and supportive environment. Whatever your experience level, or background, you'll need excellent drafting skills, a sense of commercial pragmatism, a bright mind and a strong team ethos to help further develop the team's client base. You'll also need to be motivated to participate in business development that helps to raise the team's profile and network.
