We are offering a fantastic opportunity for a professional, engaging individual to join us as a Business Intelligence Developer, within our London-based Technology team.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are recruiting for an experienced Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to join the Change Management development team, in the Technology department. The Head of Change Management heads up the Project Management Office, Quality Assurance, and the Development teams. The team is headed by the Software Development and Applications manager and compromises 20 developers working across several platforms used by the firm.

The person in this role would work closely with the business team functions to understand requirements and turn these into Business Intelligence solutions. They would supply data that is accurate, reliable and understandable to enable target audiences to make sound business decisions. The current environment is predominantly Microsoft, so they would be experienced in the current Microsoft BI stack.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.

  • Working with others in the Technology department to further develop the firm’s BI strategy, and to put this into practice
  • Understanding how data is turned into information and knowledge and how that knowledge supports and enables key business decisions
  • Understanding the data models within the Practice Management System and other systems within the firm
  • Gathering requirements and advise on the best use of visualizations and to implement BI solutions end-to-end
  • Supporting and extending the data warehouse, advising on best practices and improvements to the design and content where necessary, including the use of T-SQL and SSAS
  • Designing, implementing and maintaining ETL processes using SSIS
  • Designing, implementing and supporting dashboards, reports and subscriptions using SSRS
  • Advising on solutions using the latest products from the Power BI suite, and on integrating Power BI and SSRS
  • Educating and training IT Development staff on the use of BI-related technologies and architectures, and a small number of people in business teams on the use of Power BI tools
  • Ensuring that the data brought into the data warehouse and the information shown to users is accurate and reliable
  • Working quickly and effectively to find and resolve problems when they arise.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Candidates for this position will be expected to have worked, or be working, in a similar role within a professional services environment.

Candidates for this position must have:

Essential experience

  • Experience building complex visualizations using Power BI, Power BI Report Server, DAX
  • Microsoft BI development experience including data warehousing, data visualization and supporting ETL.
  • SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, T-SQL.
  • Business facing, stakeholder engagement, working with cross-functional teams to derive functional and technical requirements, and turning these into technical designs and working solutions
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving approach
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Pro-active and accountable
  • Displays the highest standard of professional ethics
  • Desire to learn modern technologies rapidly, and to keep up to date with latest products and developments

  • Knowledge of data warehouse design and optimisation, including the use of relational and OLAP models
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, preferably with experience working in an ISO 27001 accredited development team
  • PowerShell and C#. Knowledge of Python and R would be of interest
  • Jira, Azure DevOps, or other agile development management tools
