Department/Role overview:

Ashurst is an international law firm with offices in all the major business locations around the world.

The primary focus of the role is to support the Pricing and Commercial Manager primarily across the EMEA region

Duties will include

  • Financial modelling of new opportunities in Excel
  • Tracking and reporting on financial performance of legal matters
  • Supporting the bid and negotiation cycle by providing financial analysis, modelling and scenarios to support discussions
  • Develop, manage and support pricing tools and platforms

The role requires close working with the wider Pricing and Finance Operations teams, Partners, Business Managers and BD to create financial models specific to pricing scenarios and explain/present results and impact to all levels of seniority

Main responsibilities:

  • Supporting partners and lawyers with their decision-making on any aspects of pricing
  • Assisting on formal responses to tenders and other opportunities, including tactical pricing support
  • Support the firm's global pricing approval process
  • Undertake financial modelling and scenario analysis to support pricing decisions client and matter-based pricing
  • Supporting the design, development and implementation of Excel based tools
  • Proactive financial modelling and scenario analysis to support pricing, provide insights to support matter management decisions and presenting findings to stakeholders
  • Creating and running internal training sessions for lawyers and business services teams
  • Identifying opportunities to leverage the skills of the wider finance and business operations teams and working with them
  • As and when required, support the wider commercial function with financial reporting and operations
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and share information of Commercial team developments with business teams

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

  • An understanding of alternative fee arrangements e.g. fixed fees, capped fees, success fees etc.
  • Extremely numerate, with the proven ability to convert raw data into concise and actionable intelligence
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks that may have tight and competing deadlines
  • Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organisation both verbally and in a written manner
  • Excellent skills across the Microsoft Office suite including Excel (e.g. vlookups, pivot tables), PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience with 3e or similar and IBM TM1 preferable.
  • Ability to identify and escalate areas of risk to management.
  • Prepared to travel as and when required.
  • Willingness to perform a range of tasks from routine tasks to bespoke activities of a more complex nature as directed by management
  • Experience providing advisory and support to Partners and other senior stakeholders
  • Previous experience in a business partnering role/professional services environment desirable
