Business Area: Ashurst Advance - Legal Transformation Programme

Role: Legal Transformation Programme Manager

Location: Based at Ashurst's London or Glasgow office. UK and international travel will be required from time to time

Reporting to: Head of Legal Services Transformation

Department/ Role Overview:

Facilitate the delivery of a significant transformation programme in relation to how the firm, through each of its practice groups, delivers its legal services to clients, with an involvement in all aspects from the detailed design of the programme of transformation through to implementation of the programme and realisation of its benefits.

This programme is a core part of the firm's strategic plan to, amongst other things, be a leader in the efficient and flexible delivery of legal services.

The individual will play a key role in enabling Ashurst Advance to design and deliver a complex global transformation of the operating model by which each practice group delivers its legal services to clients, from initiation to realisation of full benefits where there is a significant level of interdependency across workstreams. This person must demonstrate the ability to work across all levels of stakeholders and third parties within a high performance environment and with a relentless focus on deliverables.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design and delivery of this large scale and complex global programme to achieve the desired agreed business outcomes on time, to quality and agreed budgets using defined methods, processes and tools
  • Working with relevant teams to deliver a well-defined change and communications plan
  • Ensuring that the programme level governance framework and other key senior stakeholders are provided with appropriate reporting and escalations are well managed and dealt with
  • Active management of the programme plan/roadmap with a laser focus on driving forward the critical path, handling changes as they arise and keeping stakeholders focused on the agreed outcomes and benefits
  • Operating effectively in a matrix management environment, so as to implement a robust internal project control framework across all areas to ensure that decisions are made effectively
  • Resourcing programmes appropriately i.e. balancing the mix of permanent, temporary and contract/consulting resources and coaching and developing team members
  • Owning, maintaining and actively managing the programme Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies (RAID)
  • Effective engagement with internal and/or external Exec/Senior level stakeholders; obtaining buy-in where required
  • Working in accordance with Ashurst's group policies, client and regulatory requirements and operational frameworks
  • Role modelling the Ashurst's values

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential Skills and experience:

  • A proven track record of successful end to end design and delivery of programmes which involve a high degree of business change
  • Experience of onboarding both cloud and on-premises technology
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with senior level stakeholders
  • Experience of using and tailoring best of breed project management processes and tools
  • Financial acumen demonstrating a strong understanding of the commercial drivers of the business case and proven delivery within an agreed budget
  • Successful contribution to the creation and maintenance of complex project plans and the execution of delivery to schedule
  • The ability to proactively contribute to a team culture and to communicate effectively with people at all levels
  • Able to coordinate project teams remotely in a global context
  • Excellent analytical skills but also commercially minded to deliver practical solutions
  • Able to listen and understand stakeholder requirements
  • Tactful and diplomatic when in pressured situations
  • Excellent presentation, written and communication skills
  • Organised and able to prioritise diverse workload and meet deadlines
  • Hands-on in approach

Desired skills and experience:

  • Preferred, but not required - familiarity with some or all of the following:
  • Innovation projects and programmes
  • Legal technology applications such as contract automation, document review/AI etc.
  • Process flow and mind-mapping tools and applications
  • Accounting/billing and/or time recording systems, and Practice Management systems (PMS)
