The firm has an extensive corporate, financial institutions, commercial and financing practice. It also has strong practices in Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property, Data Privacy, Financial Regulation, Tax, Competition, Real Estate and Pensions and Employment.
The firm is organised into groups that undertake a general spread of work, encouraging lawyers to work on an extensive range of matters. Much of the work spans the globe, with transactions involving our overseas offices as well as leading independent law firms in many other jurisdictions.
The matters we work on are generally challenging and sophisticated. We do, however, aim to give associates as much responsibility and client contact as they are ready for. Junior associates may take the lead either on the matter as a whole or a part of it. If you feel comfortable running a negotiation/meeting alone, the partners will be keen to encourage you. We recognise that individuals all need to develop at their own pace so your progress and workload will be continually monitored and reviewed with your mentor partner.

Our Data Privacy practice is a cross-stream practice that utilises a ‘hub and spoke’ model. The DP hub is currently made up of four Data Privacy partners, two dedicated associates, two PSLs, one Know-How Paralegal and a knowledge and information officer. We have data privacy nominated associates in each practice area across the firm, who in addition to their normal practice area, have extra knowledge of privacy in that context (our DP “spokes”).
The DP hub leads on complex stand-alone privacy matters and provides expert input and support on non- run-of-the mill data privacy questions that arise in other practice areas across the firm. One of our dedicated associates has recently left the DP hub to pursue a career outside the law, and whilst we are looking to recruit an NQ internally into the DP hub as part of the regular qualification process we are also looking to grow the DP hub with an external recruitment. This is a great opportunity for a DP specialist to join our leading cross-firm DP practice.
The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed;
- Advising on standalone data privacy matters, including GDPR compliance projects
- Working on data breaches, including advising on notifications to regulators, communications, contractual provisions and co-ordinating input from other specialists
- Advising on aspects of a wide range of matters including mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, data sharing and exploitation, commercial contracts, investigations etc.
- Assisting with sector-specific market engagement, including responding to consultations, contributing to regulator engagement and developing relationships with other organisations within the privacy sector, including our relationship firms in other jurisdictions.
- Contributing to business development initiatives and raising the profile of the firm’s privacy practice
- Designing and delivering client and internal training
- Assisting with the firm’s Data Privacy client events, including the annual Data Privacy Forum
- Attending, and potentially speaking at, external conferences and events
- Developing professional relationships with clients
- Writing ad hoc articles for journals and clients.
Candidates for this position must have:
- 1-3 PQE years post-qualification experience
- Pre-existing data privacy knowledge whether as a specialism or from within another practice area
- Ability to draft and negotiate contractual provisions
- Ability to research and analyse specific issues and draft memoranda to clients with clear, practical advice
- First rate legal/commercial knowledge
- Excellent client relationship skills and transaction management skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters at any one time
- Ability to develop and work in a fast paced, intellectually challenging environment
- Strong academic background and a demonstrable, high level of intellectual analysis
- Resilient under pressure with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Experience of working in a diverse team whilst fostering an inclusive team culture
- High level of professionalism and integrity.
