Job Details

It's no secret that we're an ambitious firm and our vision and our culture truly reflects that.  At the heart of this is an outstanding client experience, something that Womble Bond Dickinson prides itself on, and it's something that we've become so well known for.  We believe it's what will support the growth of our business, allow us to do rewarding and profitable work and create a sustainable business for our people. Central to all of this are our very talented lawyers, but they couldn't achieve their results without the ongoing support from our Paralegals who have an essential role to play in growing the business and maintaining efficient and cost effective service delivery on behalf of our lawyers and clients.

Our dedicated Paralegal Team, based in Plymouth, are now on the lookout for a Litigation Paralegal to join them, specialising, predominately, in debt recovery matters, but there will be opportunities for you to get involved with the wider commercial disputes team.

What will you be doing?

The team act on behalf of leading utilities, infrastructure and retail organisations providing a comprehensive recoveries and dispute resolution service.  Your role will see you working on a range of debt recovery matters producing pre-action letters, issuing, executing and completing claims through the County Court, enforcing Judgment Orders where necessary, drafting Statutory Demands, issuing Bankruptcy and Winding Up Proceedings in addition to dealing with strategic resolution of litigated consumer claims brought against our client.

There will also be elements of property litigation work as the team act on behalf of various lenders, banks and Law of Property Act 1925 Receivers, as well as a number of registered providers of social housing and local authorities. Tasks may include: conducting searches with HM Land Registry, Companies House and the Insolvency Register; drafting demand letters, the papers to appoint LPA Receivers and reports on the validity of their appointment; and drafting notices and issuing claims for possession against named tenants and trespassers. You may also be involved with mortgagee in possession matters for a key lender client.

So what are we looking for?

It's important that we offer our clients the best possible client experience and we believe that comes from allowing them to build strong and meaningful relationships with their legal team.  So this isn't necessarily someone who is already a Paralegal or looking to secure a training contract. It could be that you're looking to build your career in this specialism, already be working towards your CILEx qualification, or have gained previous experience as either a paralegal within litigation or debt recovery or experience in a similar non-legal role. If so, we absolutely want to hear from you.

In any event, the qualification is less important than those great skills that you're going to be able to bring with you. You'll be running your own caseload so you'll need to be proactive, motivated and able to manage your workload effectively.  You'll certainly be highly organised, efficient and able to prioritise effectively as we often work to tight and urgent deadlines.  As this is a client facing role, you'll be expected to build and maintain strong relationships, recognising what matters most to our clients and offering them commercial solutions.
