Job Details

Our Banking and Finance practice acts for banks, non-traditional lenders, public sector bodies and borrower clients in relation to a wide range of financing transactions.

The team are now looking for a talented lawyer to join them in Edinburgh. With a strong rating in Chambers, and an enviable FTSE 250 client list, this is an excellent opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary banking practice with national and international reach.  From our office in the heart of the city, the Edinburgh team is focused on supporting UK and international clients in the financial services, energy and property sectors, as well providing Scots law support on cross-border deals.

So what will you be doing?

You'll be working closely with Chris McLauchlan, who leads the Scottish banking team and has over 20 years of experience acting for borrowers and lenders (including clearing banks, investment banks, investment funds and insurance companies) on a range of Scottish, English and cross-border transactions.  Working as part of our national team, you will have opportunity to work with great clients on asset finance, acquisition finance, project and property finance transactions.  Your workload will include international as well as domestic financings, re-financings and restructurings.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

You'll be a lawyer with 2-5 years' experience working in banking law, and have good general transactional experience as well as a developing expertise in a particular area of finance. You'll pride yourself on your ability to work collaboratively to achieve results. You'll have an analytical mind and enjoy the intellectual challenge that this work presents.  Your pragmatism and commercial outlook together with excellent drafting skills will be vital in supporting our clients.

You will have an entrepreneurial spirit and be looking for a role that allows you to further develop your knowledge, expertise and reputation by working as part of a national team that acts for clearing banks, specialist lenders and private equity-owned businesses and owner-managed businesses.  You will be keen to take an active part ]in building the Edinburgh business, and excited by the opportunity to align yourself to one of the team's specialist practice areas (corporate finance, real estate finance, asset finance and public finance) and/or one or more of our sector groups.
