Job Details

Our Construction Insurance practice forms a key part of our well established and highly regarded national Insurance Disputes Team.

We have an impressive track record in successfully defending complex construction disputes and have been providing specialist advice in the insurance market for over 40 years. The Insurance Disputes Team specialise in the defence of high value and complex claims against professionals and our construction insurance practice encompasses claims against contractors, specialist sub-contractors, architects, engineers, interior designers, consultants, surveyors, valuers and planners. We are acting in a number of the most high profile construction disputes and public inquiries in the industry at present.

We have new opportunities for Lawyers to join the team in London.

So what will you be doing?

With no two claims the same in this varied role you'll work on disputes across multiple professions within the construction sphere as well as undertaking detailed policy coverage investigations. You'll defend claims against all types of construction professional and advise them and their Insurers on strategy and case management. You will develop contacts and relationships with both Insureds and Insurer clients and assist in the long term development of the business.

We work closely alongside our Construction & Engineering Team who provide the full range of construction related dispute and transactional advice, so there is also the opportunity to get involved in non-insurance related construction disputes. The majority of our fee-earners get the opportunity to go on client secondment which will help you to better understand our clients' commercial endeavours.

What does the ideal candidate look like?

Our team is expanding and we are looking to recruit at Associate, Managing Associate and Legal Director level. You will ideally have at least 5 years PQE in the defence of professional indemnity disputes with considerable experience in the defence of construction professional indemnity claims on behalf of Insureds and Insurers. We are also keen to hear from you if you have pure construction disputes experience and are interested in expanding your career to include construction insurance.

Ideally you'll have worked at a large regional or city firm.  Experience of insurance policy coverage issues will give your application a distinct advantage. You'll show strong academic ability, a thorough approach to complex legal analysis, with swift assimilation of complicated sets of facts. Your written advice will be fluent and concise and your high level of commerciality will enable you to address the client's overall objectives. Strong interpersonal skills will give you the ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with the different interests of insurers and insureds and to build strong relationships with clients.
