Job description

Allen & Overy is a leading global law firm operating in over thirty countries. Embracing new trends and harnessing decades of experience, we’ve earned our place at the forefront of the legal industry. Our partners are recognised as leaders in their field and our deals and cases often make headline business news. As a result, we’ve developed a reputation for delivering exceptional legal solutions that not only solve our clients’ challenges but exceed their expectations. By embracing new ways of thinking, integrating technology into our everyday work and putting our people first, we’ve become known for leading by example.

Join our team and you’ll be part of a flexible, inclusive culture underpinned by openness and consistent support for one another. Our culture enables people to define their own career path based on their strengths, while our ambitious outlook ensures we continue to provide each person with opportunities to thrive.  We’re also committed to supporting a culture that drives diversity and inclusion.  Every day, we’re working hard to create an environment where you feel you can bring your authentic self to work.  To be comfortable and confident to be who you are in the workplace.  To feel like you belong. If you’re ready to play your part in defining the future of law: It’s Time.

Department purpose

Real estate is the world's largest asset class and our work for organisations active in the sector, whether they’re investors, developers occupiers or lenders, gives us a deep understanding of the industry and the way it operates. We are at the heart of the global real estate sector offering cutting-edge and intelligent advice that complements the way our clients work.

Our client base reflects the diversity and vibrancy of our practice. We act for the leading private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds, public and private companies, pension funds, investment banks and other financial institutions, wealthy private investors, hotel owners and operators, retailers, public sector bodies, developers and unit trusts from across the globe. As our clients’ business and investment strategies evolve our practice continues to adapt and grow, with increasing emphasis on transactions in the operational real estate space including senior living, PRS, and the digital real estate sector, as well as across all the more traditional real estate asset classes. The Real Estate team is also at the forefront of innovating how legal services are delivered to our clients.

Role and Responsibilities

This is a real estate role working with all partners within Allen & Overy’s award winning global real estate group. The work will be diverse and challenging involving leading on high value investment acquisitions and disposals, structured as both asset and corporate vehicle purchases and sales, major landlord and tenant work acting for both investors and occupiers, development work, real estate joint ventures, loan portfolios and the real estate aspects of finance transactions. The role will encompass working on both UK and cross-border deals, often working alongside real estate teams in other jurisdictions within our global Real Estate group.

Who we are looking for

Driven, enthusiastic, ambitious 2+PQE associates with strong academics, experience of working on major real estate transactions, a keen interest in real estate as a business and investment product and a desire to join a growing and dynamic team determined to firmly establish itself as the premier ‘big ticket’ equity and cross-border real estate investment practice in the UK and Europe. Experience of working in teams leading (as opposed to providing corporate support) on real estate transactions structured as corporate acquisitions and joint ventures would be an advantage.

We would welcome applications from candidates whose qualification background may originally have been general corporate/M&A or funds, but who have had experience working on major real estate-backed transactions and wish to now pursue a career focused on the real estate sector.

In addition to UK qualified lawyers, we are open to seeing candidates who qualified overseas providing they have some UK/English Law experience.

Allen & Overy LLP is committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements.
