Role: Network Security Architect - 12 Month FTC

Location: London

Reporting to: Head of Enterprise Architecture

Hours of work - Monday to Friday, 09:30 to 17:30 however, will be required to work such hours as are necessary to perform duties

Department/ Role Overview:

Ashurst is transforming its target operating model and the way it delivers essential business services in support of the employee and client lifecycles, making it easier to do business with (and within) Ashurst.

A key area of Ashurst's transformation will be developing the Network architecture.

The Enterprise Architecture Function provides services for the entire company, both internal and client facing transforming Ashurst into an integrated environment that is responsive to change.

Main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the network view of the technology domain with a particular focus on network security.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on network related activities, policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures.
  • Perform gap analysis, audits, map current and target state network security architectures on LAN/WAN and cloud.
  • Develop enterprise-class network principles, policies, standards, and reference architectures for this area.
  • Ensure that the Architecture Team is adhering to the networking principles.
  • Build cases for change and achieve consensus with senior level leaders and IT leadership teams across architecture, security, operations and business teams.
  •  Contribute to the network strategy across the Ashurst global estate.
  •  Provide review and sign-off of designs in relation to network matters in a timely manner.
  •  Ensure network requirements and reviews are clearly communicated in a timely manner.
  •  Participate in the development and continuous improvement of network aspects within:
    • application and data architectures that are aligned to the business strategies and direction.
    • technology architectures that enable the application and data architecture.
    • development architectures that enable Ashurst's IT to develop business solutions in the most efficient and effective manner adhering to the Ashurst Solution Design Principles.
  •  Stay abreast of developments in appropriate new networking technologies/services and participate in the investigation / assessment of the suitability of these to Ashurst's environment and business needs.
  •  Participate in the production of the annual technology roadmap, gaining endorsement of that plan from the IT Leadership Team.
  •  Develop people's soft skills, such as communication and leadership, as well as technical skills and ensure team members feel valued, confident and motivated.
  •  Ensure that IT Architecture team members are active participants in teams formed to progress projects, business initiatives/aims etc.
  •  Ensure that IT Architecture is, and is recognised as, a valuable asset to Ashurst LLP.
  •  Work with the business to ensure that the network strategy is exploited to the benefit of the business.
  •  Work with the Head of Architecture to agree value for budgets and exercise strict financial control.
  •  IT Governance:
    • ensure that agreed standards and working practices are followed.
    • highlight any non-conformance with agreed standards and working practices with the Head of Architecture.
  •  Promote an environment that encourages collaboration, team working and innovation both within the Architecture Team and across IT and other Ashurst LLP teams.
  •  Act as an ambassador for Architecture and IT.
  •  Relationship manager between agreed technology partners and Ashurst LLP and act a point of escalation between IT and the technology partner.

Essential skills and experience:

  •  Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF) and experience of modelling within an enterprise architecture tool (ideally Orbus iServer)
  • Experience in designing and securing complicated networks
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001.
  •  Broad understanding of networking digital technologies - LAN, WAN, data centre and cloud
  •  Track developments and changes in the network architectures and threat environments to ensure that they're adequately addressed in security strategy plans and architecture artefacts
  •  Engagement with business stakeholders when ideas are conceived; and lead in shaping them into deliverable projects.
  •  Identifying risks affecting solutions, including mitigating recommendations and support in managing those risks.
  • Demonstrate good experience in the IT industry with expertise in many areas of networking technologies.
  • A broad understanding of the latest developments in technologies, industry specific issues, competitor and vendor activity and initiatives.
  • Experience in infrastructure design, strategy and architecture related activities.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of IT industry trends, suppliers and products.
  • Good knowledge of Ashurst LLP products and services advantageous.
