Business Area - Risk & Compliance - Data Governance

Role: Business Systems Data Analyst

Location: Glasgow

Reporting to: Head of Data

Hours of work -

37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, working 8.5 hours a day including an hour for lunch, between the hours of 09:00 -17:30. However, you will be required to work such hours as are necessary to carry out your duties.

Department/ Role Overview:

Data and information is one of the most important assets of the firm and therefore the governance of this data, in a holistic fashion, is key, especially given the increased level of change and growing demand for insights through data. It is therefore imperative that project and enhancement decisions relating to data are reviewed in the full business context and in conjunction with other data decisions. The oversight of projects and data changes sits with the Head of Data however this requires dedicated resource in order to provide the level of oversight required of a firm of Ashurst's footprint.

Main responsibilities:

  • Assist in the data governance oversight of projects across the firm, escalating where required
  • Assist with data artefact development, such as data models and data flow diagrams
  • Track the delivery of data requirements, escalating as required
  • Support in the delivery of Data Owner training
  • Engage with Business and IT Stakeholders and representatives to understand and discuss new and existing Data Governance requirements
  • Assist and agree solutions with Data, Development, Architecture teams
  • Work with Business and Technical teams to agree and manage prioritisation into the Delivery Teams
  • Contribute to the population and maintenance of a centralised Architecture, Data and Process repository
  • Work with the Data Protection team to understand and document the Creation, Reading, Updating and Deleting of personal data across the firm, in a format easily maintained and able to be shared with a regulator
  • Work within IT and business teams as the Data Governance specialist, helping the teams deliver change and advising on best practice
  • Engage with business teams to elicit data definitions and ensure ongoing maintenance and cross-referencing of these

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requires and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proven experience working with data in complex and changing environments
  • An understanding of Data Governance principles and deliverables
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem solving skills
  • Demonstrable experience with business, functional and systems requirements analysis
  • Strong interest in Data Modelling and the creation of all data artefacts required
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with an ability to challenge decisions and make recommendations that are followed up on
  • Drive to deliver excellent customer service
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills
  • Able to prioritise work
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment and business awareness
  • Open to change with a proactive and flexible attitude
  • Ability to work efficiently and use initiative
  • Keen interest in knowing the business and lateral/analytical thinking
  • Knowledge of Data Management best practices

  • Experience of a similar role in a professional services company would be advantageous
