Department purpose
Allen & Overy's International Antitrust Group comprises over 120 specialist competition lawyers located in over 20 countries across Europe, the US and Asia Pacific, including over 30 based in the UK. The Practice includes many of the leading practitioners in the field and it has developed industry specialist teams to advise clients in a variety of sectors including communications, media, high-tech, energy and utilities, and financial services. 

The team has been involved in some of the most high profile competition cases in recent years and works on cutting edge issues at the forefront of competition policy. Areas of practice include merger control, anti-competitive agreements / cartels, abuse of market power, utilities / regulation, litigation, state aid and public procurement.

Role purpose
As an experienced Associate within the International Antitrust Group you will provide technical knowledge and advice on a wide variety of  competition matters relating to the legal framework surrounding EU, UK or common law jurisdictions 

Key relationships

  • Competition Partners, Associates and the wider Corporate and Litigation teams
  • PSLs
  • Business Development Manager
  • Wider A&O community

Role and responsibilities

  • Drafting submissions to competition authorities
  • Providing strategic guidance to clients
  • Managing client expectations and project delivery appropriately
  • Business development - development of personal plan, assistance with and implementation of business development campaign
  • Legal research

Key requirements

  • Qualified lawyer; 1–5 PQE
  • Strong technical knowledge of the legal framework surrounding EU, UK or common law jurisdiction competition matters
  • Outstanding academic credentials
  • Intellectual curiosity and versatility
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Sound experience of operating at associate level within a complex international organisation
  • Strong commercial/business acumen with the ability to deliver creative and pragmatic solutions and advice
  • A person of sound judgement, able to establish a high level of credibility
