Business Area - Business Services Transformation

Role: CML Data Analyst (12 month FTC)

Location: Based at Ashurst’s London office. Some national and international travel may be required from time to time

Reporting to: Director BST

Hours of work -

9:30 to 17:30. You may be required to work additional hours from time to time. The ability to be flexible and regularly work an earlier shift to allow for some crossover with Australian offices (e.g. - 0700 – 1530) is essential

Department/ Role Overview:

The Client Matter Lifecycle (CML) workstream requires a Data Analyst to work with the business leads to define our information/analytics requirements around the BD / CML processes (Lead to Cash) and ensure that the way the data that supports those requirements is collated, structured and sourced supports the production of that information.

Work as a Data Analyst focusing on the Client Matter Lifecycle (CML) Programme. In time the role may extend to other programmes across BST but the initial focus will be CML.

Part of the role will also include defining ways to clean up existing data and work to implement governance to protect the integrity of what we develop

Main responsibilities:

  • Work with key stakeholders to define a 'common language for data' (data definitions / taxonomy), so that data across CML can be interpreted and used consistently and efficiently for required purposes [metrics, internal reports, client reports]
  • Help the key stakeholders, business leads and design leads understand how they can use data to address challenges, ambitions or objectives
  • Define, design and deliver data models that describe data ecosystems that support CML
  • Work with the BA team to ensure that processes support our data requirements
  • Work with the IT architecture team to ensure that systems are architected to meet the CML data requirements
  • Work with the Director BST, the Head of Data and the Head of Architecture to ensure that the methodologies used to perform this role follow their recommendations
  • Advise on ways to remove current data issues and provide guidance to the teams during remediation
  • Work with the business leads to implement governance to protect the integrity of what is develop as part of this project
  • Understanding the importance of stakeholder and change management and supporting development and implementation processes
  • Undertake business analysis work in relation to existing data issues
  • Plan and conduct data capability workshops with key stakeholders
  • Develop Requirements Management Plans
  • Arrange and manage requirement reviews
  • Prepare appropriate documentation and supporting materials in relation to specific projects
  • Adhere to Ashurst's methodologies

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Data Analyst or equivalent role with a proven track record of successful delivery in a professional services company.
  • A strong understanding of the role of data within a professional services company and / or of the Order to Cash process (Client Matter Lifecycle)
  • Essential Experience in conceptual or logical data modelling
  • Experience developing a ‘common language for data’, including data dictionaries, data vocabularies or taxonomies
  • Strong skills in the development of Data Flow Diagrams, Data Models, CRUD matrices and Entity Life Histories
  • Business Analysis skills and experience such as requirements definition, information gathering, discovery and/or specification development
  • Work effectively within an inclusive team to achieve common goals
  • Be able to assimilate and apply new techniques and knowledge to achieve business outcomes
  • Possess good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Manage stakeholders using clear communications and be able to form strong relationships
  • Demonstrate an ability to think and address challenges in a creative manner
  • Able to operate within a project brief and to follow existing methodologies

Desired skills and experience

  • Participated in or led a data modelling workshop, including defining requirements, creating models and reviewing output with stakeholders
  • Source catalogue development, including identification of ideal data sources / sources of record, consolidation and mapping of source systems
  • Development of metadata and/or reference data to normalise categories, reporting across an organisation (ie consistent hierarchies, consolidation of categories into master sets, etc)
  • Participation or involvement with data architecture development, including logical or solution architecture design
