DLA Piper, an international leading law firm, currently on its transitional journey of becoming the law firm of the future, embracing change, investing in and driving modern initiatives, including vast support of data management in all areas of the business, is commencing a major finance systems transitional project - Vector and therefore looks for its Programme Data Migration Lead.

The Vector programme's objective is to replace the firms Practice Management System (PMS) which will be out of service in 2022. The Practice Management System (PMS) is core to the operations of the firm, handling the creation and distribution of bills, revenue management along with the core accountancy functions and controls, therefore the project in questions is high exposure and complex programme, which will impact all aspects of the firm functions, people, and offices.

The Data Lead will play a critical role in the programme responsible for overseeing the end to end data migration delivery from the legacy to the target system. Working across the programmes streams, vendors and wider business to ensure the scope of data migration is defined with key business, technology and process impacts clearly defined and mitigated. Working with the vendor to build a robust and appropriate migration methodology and overseeing the end to end data migration process through the testing cycles and go-live. The role is based ideally in Sheffield or London. The successful candidate will have previous project experience within the finance systems transformation.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and create an environment oriented to trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive effort
  • Mobilise the Data Migration stream
  • Define and deliver all required Data migration deliverables
  • Apply best practice and experience to shape a appropriate and fit for data migration methodology
  • Define detailed data migration scope with impacts identified and mitigated 
  • Lead the data migration processes from legacy to target system
  • Alignment and input to enterprise master data management activities
  • Build and nurture relationships with SME's, process owners and other programme and firm key stakeholders
  • Ensure Data outputs correlate back to the core objectives of the programme
  • Work across the international offices to ensure a collaborative and representative data migration scope is complied
  • At regular intervals, update the Programme Manager on stream status, task accomplishment and stream activities against the schedule
  • Escalate issues which cannot be resolved by the stream to the Programme Manager

ABOUT YOU

Essential skills and experience:

  • Approx. 10 years of experience within a project environment, with an emphasis on finance systems transformation 
  • In-depth Experience of data migration with Elite Enterprise or similar legal PMS 
  • Proven success in the execution of finance transformation activities or projects
  • Effective communication skills including documentation and workshop facilitation and ability to present and discuss at all levels within the firm
  • Understanding of business goals and objectives
  • Understanding of the core components of the project lifecycle
  • Great team working skills and a passion for delivering results
  • Able to work independently and adapt to change
  • Ability to judge and manage priorities effectively and work to tight timescales
  • Worked in both Waterfall and Agile environments 
  • Recognised Business Analyst qualification/certification

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Relevant accreditations
  • An understanding of database design
  • In depth understanding of financial processes (Ideally in a legal context)
