Job Overview

Role: Client Relationship Manager - Banks

Location: London

Reporting to: Senior Business Development Manager, Industry Lead - Banks

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 9:30 - 17:30, however you will be required to work such hours as are necessary to carry out your duties.

Opportunity overview:

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Client Relationship Manager to join our global Business Development team based in London.

Bank Industry is one of the cornerstones of Ashurst's Industry strategy.  This role is responsible for developing and executing high quality business development and marketing initiatives for the Industry and our priority bank clients across EMEA/US.

Main responsibilities:

This is a market, client and partner facing role. In addition to CRM, responsibilities include pursuits and proposals, and significant ad-hoc projects (client targeting, Industry growth/profile raising initiatives etc).

Client Relationship Management

  • CRM responsibility for some of the firm's leading Bank Industry clients. This includes direct client engagement and hands on client management.
  • Working with partner teams to set realistic but challenging targets, identifying and acting upon cross-selling opportunities, and monitoring and reporting upon progress.
  • Responsibility for the coordination and best practice of any secondments to those clients.
  • Directly supporting the delivery of Relationship Agreement commitments.
  • Analysing existing client relationships and, using gap analysis, identify and drive opportunities.
  • Working with the broader client teams, actively gather client listening feedback across key Bank Industry clients, reporting back on results, trends arising and taking ownership of actions.

 Market leadership

  • Identifying and supporting opportunistic revenue generating initiatives.
  • Working with the team to support the delivery of the Bank Industry strategy. This includes our market messaging, our approach to industry publications/briefings, alignment with industry bodies, industry conferences, events, thought leadership and profile raising initiatives across the Industry.
  • Working with all support functions: Finance (pricing, rates, information capture, internal/external reporting, financial analysis); HR (secondments, pitches, lawyer and BD appraisals and recruitment); Compliance (T&Cs and conflict management); and IT/Digital (product development and delivery to bank clients).
  • Proactively tracking client and industry news and trends, engaging directly with the market to identify revenue generation opportunities and driving those opportunities to their ultimate conclusion.
  • Promoting our diversity and inclusion and CSR credentials/agenda with key clients.

Pitching

  • Assisting the partners in developing new business through pitching; focusing on bid strategy and opportunity generation, working with the practice and bid teams on proposals.
  • Providing Bank Industry or client related input, as required, on other pitches across the Ashurst network.
  • Supporting BD systems to capture pitch metrics, our pitch win/loss ratio and reasons for success or otherwise across.
  • Ensuring that post matter debriefs are completed for strategically important Industry pitches.

Operations

  • Contributing to and leading various central marketing and business development initiatives, as required.
  • Continually supporting an improvement in the efficiency of our systems for winning, keeping and cross-selling clients, so that tasks are performed quickly and to a high standard.
  • Contributing to the development of best practice toolkits and training programmes to assist the wider team in the execution of client relationship management best practice.
  • Ensuring the Industry requirements for data capture are met and that materials are tailored to the particular opportunities presented by each client.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Significant front line Business Development experience - ideally, will have worked within in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Ability to juggle a busy and varied workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in motivating, developing and nurturing juniors.
  • Experience of managing large panel pitches and significant tenders.
  • Experience in meeting with external clients and attending client relationship meetings.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing budgets.
  • Track record in managing the delivery of commercial thought leadership pieces from either an industry or product perspective.
  • Determination and commitment to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written skills.
  • Lateral thinking and the ability to overcome obstacles.
  • Team player.
