Allen & Overy (A&O) is a leading international legal practice with a truly global presence and a reputation for being the most advanced of the world’s leading legal practices.

A&O is opening Fuse, a new tech innovation space in our London office between Shoreditch and the City of London, as a working environment for a community of technology innovators. Fuse complements A&O’s established profile in the fintech world and will be an integral part of the firm’s ‘advanced delivery’ capability which includes its legal technology group, Project Management Office, Legal Services Centre, Peerpoint and aosphere.

The community will be made up of four groups: early stage technology companies; small teams from more mature tech companies; representatives from clients of the firm; and A&O technologists.

The tech space aims to be recognised as a leading global centre for innovative legaltech, regtech, and dealtech: technology to support work on law, regulation, and deal-making.

The core objectives of the initiative for A&O will be to accelerate the development of tech-enabled solutions in the market and in A&O, to develop deeper client relationships, to strengthen the firm’s innovation brand and tech profile, and ultimately to develop revenue generating opportunities by using A&O’s ‘advanced delivery’ tools.

Role purpose
The Fuse PA - Fuse will have a wide-ranging role ensuring the smooth running of all aspects of the operation of the tech-space and in particular will have primary responsibility for all administrative matters affecting the tech-space.

They will act as personal assistant to the Chair and Head of the tech-space. In addition they will work collaboratively with the Fuse Coordinator to ensure joined up support for the Fuse office and each other. 

This role will report to and work closely with the Head of Fuse.

The position will suit an individual who is adaptable, experienced at managing a high volume of work, resilient and collaborative, but can work autonomously and thrives in a less structured working environment.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

– Acting as personal assistant to the Chair and Head of the tech-space. This will include responsibility for their extensive diary management and day to day organisation, effective inbox management , travel, meeting preparation and document production.
– Responsibility for queries and problem solving and general organisation with a proactive approach and quick turnaround.
– Confident regular communication/meetings with the Head and Chair of the tech-space to keep them updated and also communication with clients and visitors to manage appointments and queries.
– Work with the Fuse Coordinator to take events through from the initial brief and management to completion, whether on or off site, and follow up.
– Post-event reporting and updating A&O Collaborate, including attendee lists, attendee breakdowns and reconciliation.

Key requirements
– A team player, self-starter, motivated, versatile and able to effectively prioritise
– Exceptional administrative and organisational skills
– Able to work with a minimum of supervision
– Calm under pressure and able to assess and prioritise workload in a deadline oriented environment
– Attention to detail and ability to problem solve is essential
– Knowledge of A&O and its personnel or at least of a major law firm or other professional services firm
– Confident and effective communication skills – both written and oral
– Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – with occupants of the tech-space, A&O partners and associates, A&O support functions, clients and suppliers
– Advanced technology skills, ideally not limited to Microsoft Office or similar, and curiosity about how technology can affect modern law firms, companies and financial institutions
– Familiarity with the world of start-ups and incubators would be an advantage
– Experience of managing events would be an advantage
– Willingness to work extra hours when required (eg: breakfast seminars and evening events)
