THE OPPORTUNITY         

We are currently looking to recruit a bright and ambitious commercial litigation associate to join our team in Sheffield.                                        

The role will focus on involvement in high value, complex UK and cross border litigation disputes.  Acting for a diverse client and sector base, the successful candidate will gain direct experience in all aspects of disputes avoidance, management and resolution of high quality highly complex disputes. The team led by Richard Norman specialises in many sectors including IT and Telecoms, Manufacturing, Mining, Construction and Financial Services.                       

The role will be based in our Sheffield office, the candidate will be part of a One UK Team but will also be required to travel to our other offices from time to time.   
               
Clients include Atos, Tata Communications, Telenor, CBRE, Boots, Bosch, Arqiva and Primetals, among others.

Recent work has included:

  • Acting for a major satellite supplier against a company in Egypt

  • Acting on an international arbitration in respect of a business critical dispute against a company in the Netherlands

  • Undertaking a mediation for a major retailer

  • Undertaking an expert determination in respect of an IT dispute

  • Providing a managed international litigation and arbitration service to clients throughout the Globe

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Candidates will have a broad diet of work, that will include, but not be limited to:

  • Advising on all aspects of disputes avoidance, management and resolution of high quality highly complex disputes across a range of sectors

  • Management of disputes and preparation of strategies for dealing with claims be they by international arbitration, litigation, adjudication, expert determination or mediation

  • Drafting, reviewing and amending a range of dispute related documents (ranging from pleadings to pre action letters)

  • Strategically advising clients and managing client expectations and project delivery appropriately

  • Liaising and taking instruction from clients

  • Attending client meetings

  • Business development - development of a personal plan, assistance with and implementation of business development campaign

  • Legal research       

ABOUT YOU

Technical skills:

  • We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies.  We have however given an indicative PQE as an approximate guide for applicants. Candidates who have between 1 to 4 years PQE are likely to have the right level of knowledge and have gained the right level of experience needed to be able to undertake this role

  • Candidates will have strong litigation experience gained in a leading regional or City firm

  • Be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the technical issues that are key to our clients

  • Drafts documents using a commercial, client focussed style

  • Complies with professional standards and all relevant regulatory obligations

  • Complies with the firm's systems, policies and procedures in all matters - including compliance, financial systems and time recording

  • Knows and understands how to best utilise information and research resources
