Business Area – Business Development

Role: Business Development Executive

Location: Glasgow

Reporting to: Senior Business Development Manager

Hours of work -

Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 17:30, however you will be required to work such hours as are necessary to carry out your duties

Department/ Role Overview:

To provide high quality and effective business development support for lawyers in the Strategic Advisory group which consist of the Dispute Resolution, Employment and Tax teams – to include, pitch proposals, marketing collateral, events and significant ad-hoc projects (client targeting, practice growth initiatives etc), to support the Senior Business Development Manager in the proactive development and growth of the Strategic Advisory group and to work with the other Business Development Executive across day to day tasks

Main responsibilities:

  • Focus on market leadership
  • Assist the partners in developing new business through pitching; providing background research, collating information on the firm's experience and producing focused business proposals highlighting the Dispute Resolution and Employment team's expertise
  • Monitor client and market developments and deliver relevant and focused information to the relevant lawyers via appropriate communications methods
  • Know and understand the key clients of the practice, helping the lawyers to invest their time where it matters most
  • Proactively supporting the Senior Business Development manager in the development and growth of the practice groups
  • Plan and manage events of all descriptions, including client dinners and hospitality events, seminars and conference events from inception to completion, to ensure maximum stand-out and ROI
  • Actively support the Senior Business Development Manager and contribute to department / product line business plans and the implementation and evaluation thereof
  • Supervise the circulation of client communications e.g. briefings, newsletters, newsflashes

Discipline in operations

  • Contribute to various central marketing and business development initiatives
  • Provide high quality pro-active business development support in a timely and professional manner for partners and associates in the practices
  • To improve the efficiency of our systems for winning, keeping and cross-selling clients, so that tasks are performed quickly and to a high standard
  • Manage the production of pitches with great attention to detail and to agreed deadlines. Organise and manage rehearsals for presentations
  • Ensure all materials, pitch records, CVs, experience statements and contact/mailing lists are clean, up to date and easily accessible and that these materials are tailored to the particular opportunities presented by each client
  • Oversee the distribution of promotional materials including the effective management and compilation of targeted mailing lists
  • Maintain key information systems such as the CRM system Interaction and the intranet
  • Input on the management of website content, ensuring practice overviews, team profiles and press releases are up to date
  • Maintain department marketing diary with all key industry events and directory submissions, keeping key stakeholders updated
  • Liaise with partners to draft directory/league table submissions, ensuring all submissions are appropriate and consistent with the department's key messages

Distinctive culture

  • Liaise with lawyers on a regular basis to keep up to date with what's happening in the department and to facilitate information flow around the finance practice
  • Proactively assist the Senior Business Development Manager in development of the practice groups
  • Build close working relationships with other regions, and BD teams across the firm
  • Work effectively as a team with the whole BD department, sharing best practice initiatives and providing innovative suggestions across practices
  • Assist with BD department projects as required

Risk and Control: Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with our regulatory requires and internal policies.
