Job Details

We're recruiting for a Credit Controller to work in our newly refurbished Southampton office.

A Top 100 law firm globally and Top 20 law firm in the UK, Womble Bond Dickinson has more than 400 partners and 1,000 lawyers based across 18 US cities and eight UK cities including a significant presence in London. The firm's reach also extends to Europe where it has strategic partnerships with other law firms in Germany and France.

In the UK, Womble Bond Dickinson advises in excess of 40 FTSE 350 companies, many of the largest businesses in the country, government organisations and wealthy individuals. With a focus on eleven key sectors (Energy & Natural Resources; Financial Institutions; Healthcare;  Insurance, Manufacturing;  Real Estate; Retail and Consumer; Transport, Logistics & Infrastructure; Life Sciences & Pharmaceuticals; Technology and Private Wealth) the firm’s experience allows it to build strong relationships and deliver an excellent service to clients.

Central to all of this are our very talented lawyers, but they couldn't achieve their results without the ongoing support from our Finance team who have an essential role to play in growing the business and maintaining our financial performance.  This strong financial performance is protected by our Credit Control team who control the credit offered to clients and managing any debt owed.

We now have an opportunity for a Credit Controller to join the Finance team.  Reporting into our Credit Manager, this is a great opportunity for an experienced credit control professional to have a very genuine impact on the future success of our business.

The Role

There's a lot to get your teeth into and key to all of this is relationship building; both with internal and external clients.  We'll expect you to analyse and monitor your assigned ledger and actively work to reduce debtor days.  You'll be identifying problem areas and making recommendations for their resolution.  There'll be regular liaison with partners and fee earners on all debts and this will mean you conducting meetings, either face-to-face or using our state of the art video-conferencing or Skype for Business technology.

As you would anticipate, there will be a requirement to chase outstanding debts on a daily basis by letter, telephone and email in accordance with set credit control/firm policy.  You'll also be recording chase history and agreed payment timescales and keeping all systems up to date.  All the while proactively resolving and monitoring any queries raised.

At times you will be asked to provide collection forecasting and other necessary reports and statistics, as well as assisting with the credit review and/or credit risk processes where necessary.

Naturally you'll also be in regular contact with  other Business Support Teams, most notably Finance, Business Assurance and Risk and Best Practice.

So what about you?

Well, it stands to reason that you'll have solid credit control experience, ideally gained within the legal sector or similar professional services environment.  You'll be encouraging clients to part with their hard earned cash, so negotiation and influencing skills are a must.

We're keen to promote an environment where we manage credit rather than chase debt, so are particularly keen to hear from individuals who have experience of working in a rounded credit role that encompasses more than purely chasing unpaid bills.

You'll also need to be a 'people-person' and be effective at 'selling' your recommendations and suggestions to your internal clients.

In addition, you need to be highly organised and efficient, will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, will have a flexible and proactive approach and will be motivated to succeed.

What do you need to do next?

We'd love to hear from you if you think this is the next role for you.  You'll need to make an application via our website with your CV and include a covering letter.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (lisa.gater@wbd-uk.com).

If this isn't the role for you (or the right time) why not connect with me on LinkedIn or follow us on Twitter (@WBD_CareersUK) to keep up to date with all of our opportunities.  We also have  a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/womblebonddickinsoncareers/)
