Job Details

"They have some very good lawyers. They are very smart, very business-focused and very aware"- Chambers & Partners

We are looking for an Associate or Senior Associate to join our highly regarded property litigation team in Bristol, rated by Chambers & Partners as a national leader outside London.

This is a great opportunity to join the team who are seeing significant growth in work and a chance to build relationships with some fantastic clients whilst working in a collaborative team environment. You will be joining a successful firm with a collegiate and supportive culture, which makes it a rewarding place to work.

The practice

Our specialist property litigation lawyers excel in helping clients resolve all kinds of disputes ranging from all aspects of  landlord and tenant to complex and highly technical development and land rights disputes; the team have a particular focus on disputes arising out of the Electronic Communications Code ("the Code"). We provide a cradle-to-grave service and have a wide range of experience, from advising clients on possible angles to exploit and add value on investment portfolios or development site clearance, to early-stage dispute avoidance advice and mediation, full-blown litigation and third-party determination.

The focus of this role will largely be on commercial landlord and tenant disputes and contentious property management advice, with some involvement in matters arising under the Code as well. The commercial landlord and tenant work will include acting for a number of pension funds and property companies owning significant commercial property portfolios, as well as for retail and other corporate occupiers. The role will therefore provide a good mix of acting for both landlords and tenants, and great experience advising many household names in the real estate and retail sectors.  Due to the current growth throughout the team, there will be opportunities to gain wider experience across other areas such as developer related disputes and leasehold enfranchisement/residential landlord and tenant disputes.

The team

Led by Leona Briggs who is rated in both Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, the team spans the Bristol and London offices; in Bristol we are currently comprised of 2 Partners, 1 Legal Director, 3 Associate Directors, 2 Senior Associates, 2 Associates, 1 Trainee Solicitor, 1 Legal Executive and 3 Paralegals. We work across office with our London colleagues and the team there comprises 1 Partner, 1 Associate Director, 5 Senior Associates, 1 Associate and 1 Trainee Solicitor.

Technical skills and experience

Due to the technical nature of the practice, we are looking for evidence of a strong academic record and training ideally gained within a large regional or City Firm; however academics aren’t everything, as we recognise lawyers with technical excellence operate in other firms too. Having the ability to apply the law both commercially and practically is as important as academics as is enjoying the work and fitting in with the close knit team. We are also looking for candidates who have completed a seat within a recognised and respected Property Litigation team during their training. As a guide, due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are looking to appoint an Associate or Senior Associate in this area, although we will consider candidates with more or less experience.

Your career development

Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:

• clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
•high quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
• thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;
•robust technical training with early skills based development, increasingly tailored to you; and
•reward for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.

Salary and benefits

We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
