We have a fantastic opportunity for an IT Operations Engineer to join our Bristol office in a full time permanent role.

The main purpose of the role is to provide 3rd line level support of OC's global Data and Telephony Network Infrastructure, Servers and Systems.

Hours of work are Monday – Friday, 09:00am – 5:00pm. Additionally, we will require the role holder to make themselves available to support the business on an out of hours rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support, operate and manage the delivery of the operational platforms, hardware, its various operating systems and core technologies, including the provision, documentation, maintenance and disposal of operational equipment
  • Support, operate and manage the delivery of the physical network (data and voice) and its components, the operational service of the network (using tools to monitor network traffic), network and capacity planning
  • Maintain and develop the integrity and security of all components comprising various client’s network and operational platforms, including all data
  • Work in collaboration with suppliers, and with other members of the IT teams to ensure the smooth delivery of such products to the firm
  • Assist in the maintenance of any required documentation and meeting reporting requirements
  • Ensure timely and quality closure of trouble tickets and service requests in accordance with established SLA’s, 24x7
  • Act as a resource for employees regarding any computer questions or applications, in person and through the use of an IT ticket system
  • Consult with users, management, vendors and technicians to assess computing needs, system requirements, installation or repair time, costs, resources and materials needed
  • Test, implement and support any internally developed applications as assigned
  • Responsible for staying current with advances in technology, new software applications and new hardware in order to serve as an advisor to other employees
  • Actively manage own personal training and development, identifying any suitable development opportunities
  • Any other duties that may be required to ensure the efficient operation of the IT service

Your skills

We require somebody with relevant IT experience, used to working in a demanding IT Operations team with a high level of personal responsibility.  You will:

  • Be able to create and maintain IT records with high attention to detail
  • Be proficient in hardware and software products and deliver accurate documentation, reports and processes as needed
  • Have the ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects with tight deadlines and perform accurately under such time pressures and constraints
  • Enjoy working in a growing, fast paced, dynamic and creative organisation
  • Show initiative and good judgment with the ability to switch gears at a moment’s notice and concentrate in an environment of multiple demands and distractions. Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness are a plus
  • Be detail oriented, well-organised, self-motivated and a problem solver who can also work independently
  • Be able to work collaboratively as part of a wider team with the best interests of the team and your customers being paramount
  • Exceed expectations set as part of a performance managed environment

Technical requirements

  • MPLS management and troubleshooting WAN/LAN data communications, VPN Management, SD-WAN knowledge desirable but not essential
  • WAN/LAN monitoring and management systems
  • Avaya VoIP and Unified Communications (Skype for Business)
  • Avaya/Cisco switch experience
  • Security Solutions such as Checkpoint firewalls
  • Server and PC operating systems, including Windows 7/10, Windows 2008/2012/2016 Server
  • SQL 2008 R2 and later
  • VMware 6 and later
  • Network hardware, protocols, and standards
  • SAN/NAS or Hyper Converged Infrastructure (VxRAIL)
  • Microsoft Exchange 2010/2016
  • Office 365 and Azure AD
  • SharePoint 2010 onwards
  • Document Management Systems and other applications considered as part of the 'core offering' for our business
  • Mobile and wireless voice and data hardware and communications
  • Remote working solutions
  • Server hardware (Dell) including Blade enclosures
  • Patch management systems including SCCM, WSUS and application monitoring SCOM and licensing
  • ITIL or IT Service Management experienced
  • Helpdesk/ServiceDesk or call management solutions and workflow tools
