Team overview:

Our infrastructure finance team offers clients market-leading expertise in financing energy and infrastructure assets across a range of sectors including (i) power and renewables (ii) oil and gas (iii) transport (iv) digital economy (v) social infrastructure and (vi) utilities.

With a particular focus on infrastructure M&A, our practice covers both loan and capital markets debt products, including private placement notes. We typically advise on brownfield transactions, though we also work on some financings and refinancings of greenfield assets. We act for the full range of sponsors, bank lenders, institutional investors, corporates and arrangers.

The team works closely alongside the firm's corporate, projects and regulatory teams to provide a seamless and integrated client service. We have over 400 lawyers globally working on infrastructure transactions and more than 20 partners in London with a dedicated focus on energy and infrastructure..

Job overview:

You can expect to have exposure to a range of market leading energy and infrastructure financing transactions. 

You would typically act on all elements of a financing from term sheet stage, through to closing and post-closing.

You would also be expected to manage transactions that have been assigned to you, and liaise closely with colleagues, clients, and other advisers.  You would be working as part of a committed and inspired friendly team that enjoys its work and considers itself a leader in its field of practice.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Drafting of finance documents;
  • Advising clients;
  • Managing and co-ordinating transactions;
  • Leading negotiations with counterparties;
  • Contributing to department know-how;
  • Matter completion and post-closing work; and
  • Providing structured supervision and on-the-job training to more junior lawyers.

In addition to strong technical skills, you should be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for business development and strong interpersonal skills as there will be significant client contact, in both the work and business development context.  You will be expected to understand the importance of developing client relationships and a desire to develop your own client network with support and guidance from the partners and wider team.

Essential skills and experience:

Qualified lawyer with significant post-qualification infrastructure financing experience, gained at a leading firm. The candidate will have experience in banking, project finance and/or multi-creditor financing platforms. Capital markets experience is not essential.

Strong technical skills in relation to finance law.

Client-facing experience and the ability to understand and respond effectively to client needs.

An adaptable approach, with experience acting on complex transactions.

A commercial approach and an ability to negotiate confidently and effectively.

A collaborative attitude to working within large teams and with colleagues at all levels.

Excellent academic track record.

Recent Work:

  • Advising the consortium on the successful bid for Cory Energy-from-Waste plant and subsequent refinancing
  • The successful bidder for Digita Oy (the Finnish broadcast towers business)
  • Refinancing of Navigator Terminals
  • Advising on bank, bond and private placement notes debt for Angel Trains
  • Financing Hyperoptic (the fibre optic business)
  • Bidders for HS1
