Job Details

We have an opportunity for a Business Development Executive to join our dynamic Marketing & Sales team on a 6 month maternity contract. We are ideally looking for individuals who are available immediately and will consider applicants at manager level. With over 40 people across our three UK offices (Bristol, London and Reading), this team supports domestic and international communications, marketing, sales, events and brand strategy.

This role will focus specifically on our Energy & Utilities (E&U) sector and the Transport & Automotive (T&A) sector.

Osborne Clarke is a leading International Legal Practice looking after a wide range of commercial clients such as Barclays, Facebook, Siemens and Vodafone. We are renowned for our unstuffy and supportive culture, encouraging all our people to make the most of their talent in a fast growing and exciting environment.

Our focussed strategy and positive working environment have been rewarded by many prestigious awards for career progression, management and culture, including being named Roll on Friday's 'Firm of the year' 2018.

We are happy to consider applicants looking for their primary location to be London or Bristol, although the role will involve regular travel between our three UK offices.

The Team:

OC's business development team provide support to the firm's lawyers in all aspects of business development, including client relationship management and bids. The team is structured, like OC itself, along sector lines, covering all service offerings and international jurisdictions within those sectors.

What you'll do:

Reporting to the Business Development Manager (E&U and T&A), you will co-ordinate and support all internal and external business development activities for these sectors.

This role brings a wide variety of interesting work and significant responsibilities. The primary purpose of this role is to assist in the delivery of the sector BD plans by carrying out agreed sales and marketing activities and providing support for budget management, internal communication and reporting requirements.

 Other key responsibilities include:

  • Project management of sector pitches – working closely with the firm's specialist pitch team and the relevant fee-earners to collate our responses following best practice process,  report outcomes/feedback, manage sector templates and continuously improve processes
  • Supporting the sectors' opportunity pipeline management process by assisting opportunity 'owners' to convert their opportunities into wins and reporting outcomes to the wider sector teams
  • Working closely with the Events team to own the sectors' events, ensuring they are well targeted, delivered successfully and within budget. This will also include delivering on follow-up activities and evaluating ROI
  • Utilise training sessions, tailored content and events to support the BD Manager and Campaigns team with the roll out of the firm's thought leadership material across sector teams
  • Create and internally publish the sector's key reports and provide sector content for reports required by other parts of the business
  • Keep the sector's key tracking reports up to date and report on the sector's key deals
  • Work closely with relevant fee-earners as well as the Brand and Digital teams to produce sector specific content for use in external communications such as brochures, email campaigns and video content
  • Support the sector CRM programme for key/development clients, including provision of reports as required

What we're looking for:

Alongside excellent project management and communication skills, we are looking for someone who has significant sales and marketing experience, ideally coming from a legal or professional services environment. Sector specific experience is desirable, but not essential. The ideal candidate will be looking for a role that is a mixture of sales and marketing challenges.

More specifically, we require:

  • Demonstrable experience managing projects to completion and evaluating their effectiveness
  • Someone who is confident in briefing partners and lawyers on sales and marketing initiatives, who captures clear information for implementation
  • You'll  be proactive in agreeing priorities and identify the appropriate level of importance/urgency for projects
  • You'll be exceptionally organised, with a good eye for detail, highly literate and numerate
  • You'll have excellent communication skills – will build excellent rapport with the sales and marketing and legal teams through face to face contact
  • You'll also be confident to self-assess projects and issues without micro management and to suggest alternative ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • You'll have the ability to multi-task with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ideally you will be educated to graduate level or have CIM qualifications
  • IT literacy: Excellent Vuture, PowerPoint, Excel and Word skills
  • Experience of InterAction or similar CRM database
