Job Details

The Private Wealth team at Womble Bond Dickinson has a well-deserved reputation for delivering the highest quality legal advice and outstanding client service to individuals and their families.  Whilst proud of our 200 year heritage, we are innovative, dynamic and ambitious, and now seek to further strengthen our team in Newcastle.

About us

The Private Wealth group is made up of lawyers, accountants and financial advisers operating from Bristol, Leeds, Newcastle and London, providing services to individuals, families and trustees across the UK and beyond.  Naturally, our clients expect first-rate legal advice; but that is just the starting point.  Our ability to deliver seamless advice from our multi-disciplinary team is a distinctive proposition, but we also work well alongside clients' other professional advisers, adding value by using our depth of knowledge and experience to help our clients achieve their aims.  Whether landowners or entrepreneurs, old money or new, the themes remain the same: we seek to develop a thorough understanding of our clients' circumstances, needs and aspirations and then use that understanding to help them navigate the legal and financial landscape to their best advantage.

Our team is highly rated in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.  Most members of the team are STEP, ACTAPS or CIOT qualified and benefit from high quality learning and development support, with clearly expressed career development programmes in place at all levels of qualification.

The combination which formed Womble Bond Dickinson in 2017 provides a greater international stage for our Private Wealth work, and being one of the new firm's 11 sectors underlines our commitment to Private Wealth being at the core of the practice.

The role

We now seek to grow our team at a senior level to achieve two key objectives: succession planning and further growth.

As we look to the future, we know that we will need to support a number of established client relationships as some of our team move into new phases of their careers.  Accordingly, we seek those who will be capable of sustaining and growing those existing relationships, and who will thrive not only in delivering excellent legal advice, but doing so in a way which is compatible with our core values of integrity, professionalism, commercialism and common sense.

Similarly, our desire to grow means that those for whom those values are innate will find a warm and supportive atmosphere in which to take their own practices forward.

The candidate

The successful candidate will be an experienced private client practitioner, who acts for families, individuals and trustees (including corporate fiduciaries) in relation to a wide range of matters.  Alongside the core skills of wills, trusts and probate you will have a commercial awareness of the operation of family businesses, an empathetic approach to the complexities of family relationships and experience in managing teams of fee earners from other disciplines in delivering services to private clients. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop new business and either existing or aspiring managerial skills.

Existing partners will find a supportive, collegiate environment in which to work, and senior assistants looking to make the next step up will find a transparent and well-defined route to partnership.

So what makes it so great to work here?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a close-knit and supportive team where you can learn from true leaders in their field and build your experience with access to great quality work and great clients.  Supported by a collegiate approach, and firm wide commitment to lawyer development there are fewer better places to start your career as a qualified lawyer or continue your career as a lawyer.  In addition, through our D&I practices and programmes we work hard to ensure that difference is visibly valued and welcomed. Visit our D&I page page to find out more.

And that's not all, alongside a competitive salary you'll receive a flexible benefits package so you can pick and choose between the benefits that matter most to you.
