THE ROLE

We are currently recruiting for associates to join DLA Piper's global Intellectual Property and Technology (IPT) team to be based in Dublin.

Our IPT practice encompasses nearly 500 dedicated lawyers in more than 24 countries, with particular strength in key global markets. Intellectual property and technology law is at the core of any major business transaction or strategic dispute and has become one of the most critical legal areas as companies continue to expand and protect their technologies, brands, products, data and services around the globe.

The successful candidate will provide both litigation-related (contentious) and strategic commercial advice to a wide range of industry sectors, helping clients from emerging technology and pharmaceutical companies to established banks and financial institutions achieve their objectives wherever they do business.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Working as part of our market leading global team, candidates will enjoy a broad diet of work that will cover our core services including;

  • Advising on major sourcing and outsourcing initiatives
  • Dealing with technology projects involving cloud computing, open source, blockchain and automation/AI
  • Assisting with data protection and privacy matters, including GDPR compliance and notification issues
  • Advising on software licensing and support, and acquisition/licensing of technology
  • Negotiation of more general commercial arrangements

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

We pride ourselves on having a collegiate environment and we are looking for down-to-earth but confident lawyers with strong leadership potential. We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have strong IPT experience gained in a leading Irish, City, regional or international firm
  • be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the technical issues that are key to our clients
  • draft documents using a commercial, client-focussed style
  • comply with professional standards and all relevant regulatory obligations
  • comply with the firm's systems, policies and procedures in all matters - including compliance, financial systems and time recording
  • know and understand how to best utilise information and research resources

Our IPT practice group is a truly international practice with an established track record of growth and development. Career prospects for the right candidates are excellent.

This job description is not designed to be exhaustive and can be varied as required to develop or fulfil this role.

The firm offers excellent training, learning and development programmes, as well as a genuine opportunity to experience a wide range of work and clients in a friendly, supportive environment.
