THE ROLE

In order to further develop the capability of DLA Piper's International Insurance Sector Group, we are currently seeking non fee earning support from a seasoned lawyer with genuine international sector experience and expertise. The successful candidate will provide effective insurance and reinsurance technical specialism or expertise and/or industry or sector experience to enhance the ability of the international insurance and reinsurance practices to build brand profile within what is a highly mature and competitive marketplace for legal service providers.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a new role, and so its content and parameters will to an extent develop over time in response to the needs of the business and the skill-set and contribution of the successful candidate. Nevertheless, the following provides an outline of our current vision for the role to drive the further successful development of the International Insurance Sector Group:

  • Routine provision of regular technical legal and sector updates to clients on both contentious and non-contentious issues and emerging market risks and trends

  • Working with the existing PSL population across various practice groups, and with fee-earners, to support an integrated programme of client-facing collateral materials, events and initiatives aimed at driving the firm's brand profile within the international insurance and reinsurance markets

  • Development of internal technical resources to build knowledge databases and precedents relevant to the international insurance and reinsurance lawyers across the practice groups

  • Supporting the Insurance Sector internationally. As this is a cross-practice and cross-border role, the candidate must be prepared to support an international, multi-disciplinary practice

  • Working closely with the International Insurance Sector Group's co-heads and other partners and fee-earners to develop and execute the Sector's strategic objectives by, for example, conducting research into emerging market risks and trends, horizon-scanning, and supporting clients and Sector colleagues to identify such trends

  • Assisting with the delivery of specific, effective and efficient sector-focussed client marketing, pitching and business development, thereby relieving some pressure from partners and fee-earners

  • Integration with the existing knowledge management functions operating within the International Insurance Sector, as well as across the various practice groups and the Marketing & Business Development Teams

  • Working closely with existing resource to support and guide them on issues concerning the insurance and reinsurance market, our Sector clients, and how they do business

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • A strategic focus, not limited to a more "traditional" PSL skill-set

  • Experience developed within market-leading insurance practices, working in contentious international insurance and reinsurance matters across a wide range of classes of business in both coverage and third party liability disputes is highly desirable

  • A demonstrable ability to work both with clients and fee-earners on day-to-day matters and the ability to assist in developing the business

  • Experience of developing and running training programmes on technical insurance and reinsurance issues for internal teams and for clients

  • Strong academics and an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, distilling complex matters into easily comprehensible language

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, working to sometimes conflicting timescales in a fast-paced and challenging environment

  • Ability to build trust and rapport, and to develop effective relationships, both internally and externally

  • Experience of working internationally is preferable
