Job Details

If someone told you, you could qualify as a solicitor in 6 years, without the associated cost of going to university, while earning a good salary and developing amazing skills and experience along the way, would you believe them? Well you should! The Solicitor Apprenticeship does just that. We know university isn't for everyone, but that shouldn't be the end of a successful legal career; in fact, it could be just the beginning.

Here at Womble Bond Dickinson we love to celebrate success. We launched our first Solicitor Apprenticeship programme in September 2017 and due to our ambitious nature we're looking to roll out for a third year... this time with a difference! We've teamed up with Bristol City Council; together we're looking for talented future lawyers to join us to be part of this unique opportunity to shape the future of our Apprenticeship programmes.

We're a force to be reckoned with and together we have an ambitious vision to build a better Bristol that includes success for everyone in the city. This is where you'll come in. As a Solicitor Apprentice with either WBD or Bristol City Council you'll be trailblazers in the legal sector. So, not only do you get to qualify as a Solicitor and gain a law degree, without the associated costs of university, you'll also have a significant impact on the future of our business', and the city of Bristol. Now how does that sounds for starters?

Between us, we've got a great track record in recruiting, developing and retaining apprentices across a range of different functions and the Solicitor Apprenticeship route is no different. With Bristol City Council's expertise in recruiting apprentices and Womble Bond Dickinson's experience in recruiting Solicitor Apprentices we think we're pretty good collaborative partnership.

Okay, I hear you ask, "What will I actually be doing?"  We can promise you it's not all admin and filing.  This is a real opportunity to contribute to the future success of our businesses.  We're training our future generation of lawyers and that means giving you access to great quality work that will increase in complexity as you develop through the programme.  So be prepared for a gentle introduction to the respective business which might include spending some time in our business support teams, so that you really get to understand how our business works.  As you move into more of a legal role, we'll start you off gently with some of the more administrative duties so that you gain your confidence before taking on the more complex legal tasks.  But don't worry, you'll be supported every step of the way.  We're all rooting for you and want you to succeed, so we'll do everything in our power to make sure that happens.

Both WBD and Bristol City Council strive for an inclusive, high performing, healthy and motivated workforce. You'll become part of our pensions schemes, enjoy a generous annual leave entitlement and in addition have the opportunity to 'buy' extra holiday. You'll have the opportunity to get involved with some of the wider businesses activities and choose some benefits that best suit your lifestyle.

It sounds so good, even we might apply!

We're looking for candidates with good academics at A level or equivalent as a minimum.  Unfortunately this is not open to those with a law degree, GDL or LPC. Beyond that, we'll be looking for you to demonstrate a few core skills: team-working, communication, creative and analytical thinking, an ability to build strong and lasting relationships and a drive to succeed.

Do you still have questions?  That's only natural.  We're here to answer any queries you might have before you make your application.  Feel free to get in touch with me, Kita Cureton, at kita.cureton@wbd-uk.com or Tiffany Jenkins at tiffany.jenkins@bristol.gov.uk.

If it's an easy decision, then get your application in soon; our closing date is 30th April, with our assessment day taking place the week commencing 13 May. It's here that you'll get to choose which business is your preferred option.  Just complete the application form from the link below, and we'll get in touch once our application deadline passes to let you know what the next steps are.  Our selection process involves a mini work placement in June to give you an opportunity to decide whether we're the right environment for you.

If the timing isn't quite right for you, or this isn't the programme that you're looking for, you can keep in touch through our various social media channels for regular updates on the opportunities that might suit you best.
